Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg was paused for a huge announcement as they issued a live update about Prince Andrew.
Victoria Derbyshire shared a live breaking news announcement on BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg. As she welcomed the panel on screen she quickly paused the conversation about energy prices as she said to the panel: “I want to bring you this breaking news if I may, it’s from the Metropolitan Police. They’ve said that they are going to look into claims that Prince Andrew ordered his bodyguard to dig up dirt on Virginia Giuffre who accused Prince Andrew of sexual abuse.
“She says she was forced to have sex with him when she was 17. Emily Maitlis first of all, what’s your reaction to that?” Emily told the host that she was glad to hear that they were investigating.
She added: “This comes in the week where we will be hearing from Virginia Giuffre through her own voice. Her memoir is published on Tuesday. It will be harrowing, it will be devastating.”

Victoria admitted that she’s already read it, telling Emily that “it is”. Emily said that Virginia will be discussing so much trauma.
Emily said: “If there have been people responsible for trying to make her life even more unbearable than it was, then I would like to see justice done.”
Victoria then questioned Emily about her thoughts on the alleged email that emerged last week about the email from Prince Andrew to Jeffery Epstein, having told Emily that he’d cut contact the year prior.
Emily said: “I felt quite sick. He was categoric in 2019 in the Newsnight interview that he had come to stay with Epstein to break the news of the end of their friendship in person.”
Emily explained that she’s since gone back and rewatched the whole interview for the first time in six years to assess it.
Victoria then moved on to Adil Ray to question him on his thoughts of Prince Andrew no longer using his title. She explained that Virginia’s brother told them on Newsnight that he believed that King Charles should remove the Prince title from Andrew, asking Adil what difference it makes that he no longer uses the title Duke of York.
Adil said: “I think it makes no difference at all Victoria, it’s a punishment to him but it makes no difference to anyone else. The papers are still talking about him, it’s still a distraction.”
Victoria questioned if it had been better had the statement been released by King Charles, but Adil said he believes that Prince Andrew should have shown more remorse in the statement, saying the right thing to do if he’s innocent is to “testify and help the victims”.
