Johnson initially stirred up speculation about his retirement during the Super Bowl episode of Fox NFL Sunday.

The show played a special tribute to Johnson during that episode and he was teary-eyed after it was played.

Now it is confirmed that he is leaving the show, and tributes are pouring in from his coworkers.

Michael Strahan was one of the first to pay tribute to Johnson with a post on Instagram.

“Congratulations on your retirement @jimmyjohnson4616!” he wrote.

“It has been 17 seasons of fun and laughs sitting next to you. You’re truly one of a kind and thanks for being you and gifting me with one of the best friendships anyone could ever ask for.

“Hope you enjoy fishing and drinking beers on the boat. You deserve it, love you Coach!”

Johnson made his official announcement while speaking on The Herd With Colin Cowherd.

“As you know, probably the most fun I’ve ever had in my career, and that’s counting Super Bowls and National Championships, was at Fox Sports,” Johnson said.

“I have an absolute ball with my friends on the set, and the best friends I’ve ever had there with Fox.

“And I’ll tell you on top of that, I love working for Eric Shanks, our CEO, and our producer Bill Richards.
