One Piece: Oda Sets Up Marineford 2.0 In The New World. T

When it comes to the most impressive arcs of One Piece, Marineford is one that takes the cake. This arc was absolutely phenomenal from start to finish, and the vast majority of One Piece fans consider it to be the greatest arc that the story has produced so far. Of course, there are many other arcs that are on the same level, but Marineford is one that helped boost the popularity of One Piece to sky-high levels, ensuring that it ended up becoming the highest-selling manga of all time.

The Paramount War, also known as the Summit War, or simply, the Marineford War, was quite easily the biggest war in the One Piece world and the Great Pirate Era. This war was fought over Portgas D. Ace, the son of the former Pirate King, Gol D. Roger. Ace, who set out on a quest to avenge the Fourth Division Commander of the Whitebeard Pirates, Thatch, was beaten and captured by Blackbeard. In exchange for a Warlord position, Blackbeard gave Ace over to the Navy, who couldn’t believe their luck, given that they had been trying for years to get their hands on him. Because Ace carried the blood of the Pirate King Gol D. Roger, his execution was of paramount importance. That is why an execution date for Ace was set up immediately, and a war followed. The person who went to war for Ace was none other than one of the Yonko and the strongest man in the world, Edward Newgate.

This war that Whitebeard fought for Ace was absolutely massive. It was fought at the Marine HQ, and saw 43 ally ships of the Whitebeard Pirates sail with him into the Marine Plaza. A massive war ensued, and it also saw the involvement of some other vicious criminals from Impel Down, thanks to Luffy. The Seven Warlords, 100,000 Marines, and also some other pirates with intriguing motivations were thrown into the mix and a chaotic war unfolded. This war was absolutely massive, no matter which way fans looked at it and in the end, the pirates did succeed in freeing Ace from the grips of the Navy.

Unfortunately for them, Ace ended up sacrificing his life for Luffy, and Whitebeard, who had sacrificed everything to secure Ace’s freedom, ended up perishing as well. The Paramount War was a trigger for the most important part of the story as it compelled Luffy to grow even stronger so that he wouldn’t have to face another loss again in his life. In the post-timeskip, Luffy has yet to face similar losses, but it remains to be seen as to how long things can continue as smooth sailing for him.

Major Battles Just Like Marineford Are Coming Soon

The Hachinosu War Could Pit The Navy Against The Blackbeard Pirates

It goes without saying that the Marineford Arc was absolutely massive and that it redefined what a war arc could be like. That is precisely why fans are glad to know that Oda is setting up similar battles to Marineford in the story already. For one, the Marineford Arc had a very intriguing captive in Ace. From what fans observed in the Egghead arc, there is a very intriguing captive already in the story, and that person is none other than Garp. Previously, Ace, a pirate, was captured by the Marines and a war ensued at the headquarters of the Marines. This situation is the inverse of the Paramount War. This time around, a Marine is captured by the Pirates and is currently being kept at the Pirate Island, Hachinosu.

The winner itself becomes justice! – Doflamingo

Just like the pirates invaded Marine HQ last time around, this time, it is possible that the Marines will invade the pirate HQ, which is Hachinosu. This could see a similar war break out on the island for the purpose of freeing Garp, and this war could be absolutely incredible, no matter which way fans look at it. It will see the involvement of some of the most powerful Marines, such as the Admirals, Smoker, Sengoku, and Tsuru, among many others, and give fans a glimpse of the strength of the likes of Blackbeard, his commanders, and of course, Kuzan as well.

As to why this war will happen, fans know that Blackbeard intends to use Garp as a trading chip. He wants to become the King of Hachinosu and he believes that if he trades Garp with the Government, he will get what he wants. However, what is also clear is that the Marines will not want to be seen as weak in the eyes of the public. Making Blackbeard the King of the Pirate Island would essentially be buying into the ridiculous demands of a pirate. There is absolutely no way that the Navy will agree to his demands, and, similarly, they cannot let the face of the organization, that is, the Hero of the Marines, be killed because he serves as a symbol. That is precisely why a war over Garp must be fought on the island of Hachinosu, likely led by the likes of Sengoku and Tsuru.

The War Over Straw Hat Luffy

While the Hachinosu War in itself is exciting enough, this isn’t the only war that essentially parallels the Paramount War in One Piece. As fans might remember, before the Paramount War event began, fans saw Ace share a piece of his Vivre Card with Luffy. This Vivre Card was a plot device used by Oda to get Luffy to Ace once Ace’s execution happened. This time around, Oda has done something similar. Only this time, the one sharing the Vivre Card is Luffy himself. As fans know, Luffy shared his Vivre Card with Sabo, as well as all the captains of the Grand Fleet. All of them hold a piece of Luffy and in his time of need, they will come to him, as has been established by Oda already in the story. This hints at Luffy potentially being captured at some point in the series, and this could eventually lead to all of the allies of the Straw Hat Pirates fighting on their behalf and freeing Luffy. This war could also mirror the Paramount War and is yet another exciting event that fans could see happening in the post-time skip.

Will The Marineford Equivalent Be The Great War?

There Are Even Greater Wars To Come In One Piece

As is evident from what Oda has been setting up, the Marineford equivalent will not be the Great War. Oda is setting up the battle for Garp, and possibly even Luffy’s capture to be the equivalent of Marineford for the post-timeskip of One Piece. The Great War is something even bigger to come. As Oda has stated himself, the Final War of One Piece will be so big that Marineford will look like a child’s play in front of it. In other words, the Great War will be far bigger than anything that the fans have ever seen, and make all the other wars in One Piece look like an absolute joke.

At the same time, there are other wars that fans will see soon enough in the story, with Garp and potentially even the Straw Hat Grand Fleet taking a central role in them. Things can’t be more exciting in One Piece at this point in time, and fans are itching to see what happens next as the plot thickens.
