FERNE McCann has been backed by supportive mums after being trolled for breastfeeding her 20-month-old daughter.

The Dancing On Ice and TOWIE star posted a sweet picture on Instagram with her daughter Finty on her breast, sharing an update on life as a mum and her breastfeeding journey.

In the picture, Finty is feeding while Ferne kissing her child lovingly on the top of her head as they sit on the sofa.

Alongside the snap, the star wrote: “Haven’t posted about my breastfeeding journey in a while, but I still get a lot of people asking if I’m still doing it.

“In complete honesty, I’ve been a bit nervous to share about it lately. Even though I’m such a big advocate for breastfeeding, the truth is, I’ve been afraid of what people might think or say now that Finty is 20 months old.”

“I’m sharing this because if you’re like me and still feeding, and you’re feeling pressure to stop or wondering if it’s ‘not the norm’ to breastfeed past one, I just want you to know…there are plenty of mums still doing it. Keep going, mamma,” she added.

“However it looks, do your normal. 🤎”

While she was praised for her open and honest discussion about motherhood, with some calling her a “rockstar” and others praising her for “going at her child’s pace”.

However, others were quick to criticise her, stating her daughter was “too old” to still be latched on.

“Should no way go past 1 ! Ffs people get a grip,” wrote one, while another wrote: “Why??????”

“Don’t need to see this picture,” complained a third, while a fourth wrote: “Way too old. Doesn’t need it anymore. Your just keeping her a baby for you.”

Another fan supported her decision but noted: “I don’t think it’s anyone’s business how long you chose to bf for. However being in the public eye.. when your girl is older, she might not like this pic being so public?”

However, fans, friends and followers were quick to hit back, with one saying at a rude comment: “not your boobs, not your business”.

Gogglebox’s Ellie Warner supported Ferne and wrote: “Still going with my little boy and feeling the pressure too! You’re doing amazing and the best thing for you and your baby, thank you for helping to normalise breastfeeding beyond infancy by making it visible on your platform”

Olympian Sarah Storey, who was due to appear on Dancing On Ice with Ferne before being knocked out due to injury, also backed her up and wrote: Absolutely. 👏🏻 Very well said.

“I breastfed my two for 4 years each time and both decided they were ready to stop when it happened.

“It’s such a small time of their lifetime and so it’s always so lovely to see and hear of other mums who are breastfeeding toddlers and pre-schoolers too ❤️❤️”

“Can we just normalise that a lot of people breastfeed for at least two years I breastfeed my little one till she was 23 months,” said another fan.

“People seem to forget breastfeeding is not just for goodness it is a comfort blanket and a safe place for them to be 🥰”
