William And Kate Rally Around King Charles As Earl Spencer’s Harry And Meghan Intervention Fuels Fresh Royal Tension
Prince William and Princess Kate reportedly spent part of the weekend in Scotland close to King Charles as controversy continued over Earl Spencer’s new book about Princess Diana.
The Prince and Princess of Wales travelled to Royal Deeside following their visit to the Isle of Bute on Thursday, according to reports.
At the same time, Charles was staying at Birkhall, his private residence on the Balmoral estate, after completing two days of engagements at Dumfries House in Ayrshire.
Their presence in the same area has prompted questions over whether the fallout from Spencer’s memoir, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, may have been discussed privately.
However, neither Buckingham Palace nor Kensington Palace has confirmed whether William and Catherine actually spent time with the King during the trip.
Kate Reportedly Stayed for Two Nights
According to Hello!, Catherine remained in Scotland for two nights before travelling back to Windsor alone on Saturday morning.
The report did not establish whether William remained in Scotland after her departure or whether the couple held any private meeting with Charles.
Both royal households declined to comment on whether the Prince and Princess of Wales had spent time with the King.
That lack of confirmation has nevertheless fuelled speculation because the visit came at a particularly sensitive time for the Royal Family.
Spencer’s new memoir has generated a wave of headlines over his recollections of Diana, his allegations involving Charles and his comments about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Spencer’s Comments on Harry Add Another Layer
The controversy intensified after Spencer publicly backed Harry’s concerns over security.
Diana’s brother said he personally worries about Harry not having police protection and linked those concerns to what happened to his sister.
Royal sources cited in the report claimed Spencer’s remarks could further frustrate William, particularly amid reports that the Prince of Wales is unhappy about Harry and Meghan’s return to the UK.
Those claims about William’s reaction have not been confirmed by Kensington Palace.
Spencer has repeatedly insisted that he does not favour Harry over William and has said he supports both of Diana’s sons equally.
Even so, the combination of his new book, his comments on Harry’s security and his criticism of King Charles has placed him at the centre of another intense royal dispute.
William’s Relationship With Diana Remains Highly Personal
The report also suggested that some of Spencer’s remarks concerning William may prove particularly sensitive because the Prince has spoken publicly in the past about his mother and the impact of her death.
William was 15 when Diana died in Paris in 1997.
Since then, both he and Harry have spoken at different times about their grief, their memories of their mother and the way her death shaped their lives.
Spencer’s memoir revisits many of those same events from his own perspective as Diana’s younger brother.
That has inevitably brought renewed attention to painful family history at a time when relations between several members of the Royal Family remain strained.

Despite the timing of William and Catherine’s trip to Scotland, there is no confirmation that Spencer’s book was discussed with the King.
The fact that all three were in Royal Deeside at the same time has been enough to generate speculation, but the details of any private conversations remain unknown.
Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace have both maintained their silence over whether William and Catherine met Charles during the weekend.
