Kelly Clarkson left Jenna Bush Hager stunned in disbelief as she shared an extremely cruel comment people have made about her appearance.

The singer was appearing on Today With Jenna & Friends when she explained why she had opted to film a sexy promotional video for new single Where Have You Been. Talking to Jenna she said that she had wanted to hit back at all the vicious things that people have had to say about her and her appearance over the years.

Kelly joined Jenna and guest host Matt Rogers on Tuesday May 6, with Matt pointing out how she had embarked on a noticeably sexier vibe for her new work. He said: “Ma’am, this is your sexiest video you’ve ever done!”

Kelly then addressed her reasoning for the change of image as she appeared to be pleased with their take on the video. She said: “Look, I lost some weight and I was like, ‘You put me in something fitting because I don’t know how long this will last!’”

Asked by Matt if it had been “a conscious decision” from her to head in that direction creatively with the video she said: “In all honesty, I’ve had a lot of people always in my career be very cruel [and say], ‘Oh, you look sl–ty if you wear this.’”

A stunned Jenna gasped as she said “What?!” before Kelly continued: “Oh, I’ve had people be very cruel.”

She continued: “And so it’s like, I’ve never been able to just be what I want for that moment, for that song, what that character calls for, because they’re all different characters. So, this was a very sexy moment.”

Kelly also admitted that during her time appearing as a contestant on American Idol she did not want to wear makeup and it caused her some issues behind-the-scenes.

She said: “One producer in particular, very high up, was not a fan of me just because I didn’t play that game. And it wasn’t even playing a game. The other four girls that season were very into that stuff. They were very into it.”

Kelly appeared as a guest alongside Jenna and Matt after rumors that she was going to be joining the show full-time as a replacement for Hoda Kotb.

However, the singer recently signed a new deal for her own talk show, The Kelly Clarkson show, putting those rumors to bed.
