NBA training camp is a mere few weeks away, and restricted free agent Josh Giddey’s desired contract extension hasn’t come to fruition. The Chicago Bulls and Giddey remain far from their contract negotiations, which may not be settled for a few more weeks. However, a recent report suggested that Giddey and the Bulls will find common ground soon.

Giddey reportedly seeks a $30 million annual extension, but Chicago isn’t comfortable shelling out that much money on him. The Bulls want to retain him on a four-year $80 million deal and don’t want to go overboard. The Bulls aren’t convinced that he’s a near-max player. They have been idle about increasing the number throughout the offseason.
In recent developments, the Bulls budged a bit, offering a four-year extension of $85 million to $90 million for the Australian-born guard. That seems to be a fair offer considering that Josh Giddey hasn’t made an All-Star or any All-NBA teams yet in his career. The Bulls have offered a last proposal to get him on board.
“The Bulls have INCREASED their offer to Josh Giddey to a four-year contract in the ballpark of $85 million to $90 million,” per Brett Siegel, an NBA insider from Clutchpoints. “This is expected to be their LAST proposal this offseason.”
The 22-year-old guard is one of the biggest free agents left on the market. Despite playing poorly for the first half of last season, Giddey turned it up a notch after February’s all-star break. He averaged 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game during the 2024-2025 campaign.

Due to being far in negotiations, Giddey might pick up his $11 million qualifying offer from the Bulls. He could test free agency again in 2026, where he could freely sign with another team and get his desired number.
This offseason has been bad for restricted free agents and a few veterans. Aside from Josh Giddey, other notable restricted free agents in the market are Jonathan Kuminga and Quentin Grimes. Both have yet to sign extensions with their respective teams. Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas recently picked up his $6 million player option because his preferred salary range wasn’t given.
