A former Strictly Come Dancing favourite has shared the terrifying moment she had to rush her young son to hospital after a shocking accident left him with a gruesome injury. Erin Boag, one of the BBC show’s original professional dancers, told fans she made a frantic dash to A&E after her 11-year-old son Ewan severed his finger while playing with friends. The New Zealand-born ballroom star, who first appeared on the hit dance series in 2004, shared the ordeal with followers in an emotional Instagram update, explaining just how serious the accident had been.
Detailing the moment she realised the injury was far worse than first feared, Erin said: “My son Ewan, who’s 11-years-old severed his finger in a door playing with friends – his middle finger on his left hand, and when I when I say severed, I mean severed.” She added: “You know flesh, bone, fingernail the whole lot, and it was a quick dash to Kingston Hospital A&E where nurses, doctors, staff came out looked after him, they X-rayed.” The frightening injury saw doctors quickly transfer Ewan to a specialist unit.

Erin explained: “We were referred to St. George’s in London, the paediatrics there in the special department where they do plastic surgery, where they did an operation on Ewan and saved his finger and bandaged it up.”
Thankfully the emergency surgery proved successful, and the dancer revealed the youngster is now recovering at home following the traumatic ordeal.
Continuing her story, Erin said: “Obviously we were sent back home, but the aftercare has been incredible.”
The former Strictly star said the experience had left her hugely grateful for the care her son received.
She told followers: “It’s been two and a half weeks, and I just want to say thank you to Kingston Hospital. Thank you to St. George’s.
“Thank you to all the staff there that we dealt with, you know, from reception to nurses to doctors to the plastic surgeons.”
Clearly emotional as she reflected on the ordeal, she continued: “Thank you for the care that you gave my son. Thank you for saving his finger.”
The dancer also confirmed the youngster is now recovering well following the emergency operation.

Alongside the video, Erin reassured fans that “Ewan’s finger is on the mend”. Support quickly poured in from followers after she shared the frightening update.
One fan wrote: “I hope Ewan is well on the mend. A very brave young man. Well done NHS.” Another commented: “Oh my goodness what a trauma for you all especially Ewan. So glad for the positive outcome.”
Erin became a familiar face to millions of viewers when she joined the first ever series of Strictly Come Dancing in 2004.
Erin partnered a string of celebrity contestants and has remained closely connected to the Strictly world since leaving the competition floor.
The ballroom expert is still regularly seen offering her dance critiques on spin-off programme It Takes Two, and she also returned to the main show in 2015 to offer advice to celebrity contestant Katie Derham, who was dancing with Erin’s long-time professional partner Anton Du Beke.
Away from television, Erin married business consultant Peter O’Dowd in 2009 after being introduced through fellow dancer Camilla Dallerup.
