Emmerdale fans flooded Ofcom with complaints over harrowing scenes that aired last week. Fans have been forced to watch dark storylines unfold regarding drug dealers Celia Daniels (Jaye Griffiths) and Ray Walters (Joe Absolom). Teenagers April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan) and Dylan Penders (Fred Kettle) have had their lives turned upside down, having no choice but to deal drugs for the twisted duo.

But last week, April finally found the courage to tell her father Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) and Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) the truth, leaving them horrified by what the teenager had endured. To keep their secret from getting out, Celia forced them all to watch a live stream of Ray mowing down Dylan with his car. Dylan was taken to hospital after received life-threatening injuries, but thankfully survived the attack.

The episode, which aired on December 4, led to 297 complaints being made to the broadcasting regulator, adding to the 59 complaints already lodged for an episode broadcast two days earlier.

A spokesperson for Ofcom said: “The majority of complaints related to the Celia/Ray storyline appearing pre-watershed.”

Although April and Marlon feel trapped, the walls are no doubt closing in on Celia as her secret has been exposed.

Actress Jaye Griffiths opened up about her character’s upcoming exit, acknowledging that her storyline was always destined to be short-lived.

She told Express.co.uk: “I knew it was finite which I am very sad about because I would like to stay forever.”

Although fans would like to see Celia punished for her crimes, Jaye revealed the villain will do whatever it takes to ensure her own freedom.

The soap star said: “It won’t be the first time that it’s had to be dissolved and moved. The idea that she would get caught – inconceivable. No. She will move blame, she will throw anyone under the bus before herself. She’s not going to prison. Get out of her way, is what I’m saying!”

She recognised that April’s family are “an irritant” to her while Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) is beginning to ask questions.

Jaye added: “But more alarmingly Ray has gone and fallen in love. So she’s extricating them to another area. It is clear that this is something they have done before – find another farm in another location and set up their enterprise again.”
