Like any others at the time, Jemele Hill sounded off on the Olympic boxing controversy involving Algerian boxer Imane Khelif.

Khelif scored a victory over Italian opponent Angela Carini in what was a very short bout, as the latter checked out at 46 seconds. Carini’s decision sparked accusations, with many criticizing the International Olympic Committee for allowing a transgender athlete to fight a woman.
While Khelif was disqualified from the 2023 World Championships, she met all of the requirements for the 2024 Olympics. That didn’t stop people from making gender claims, however.
Carini apologized to Khelif, expressing regret over the controversy her decision sparked.
Jemele Hill saw the apology and wrote that others owed Imane Khelif an apology.
“A lot of people need to apologize. I hope Khelif sues some people over their reckless remarks,” she wrote. “All this story did was expose ugliness, hatred, and transphobia. As Carini admitted here, she quit because she was upset she was gonna get her [expletive] whooped, and other folks turned it into something else.”
Fast forward to 2025, and things have certainly changed.

No competitor could stop Imane Khelif at the Paris Olympics, but a leaked medical report might have stopped her forever.
The document, initially published by 3 Wire Sports, summarizes the findings on the Algerian boxer as “abnormal,” stating, “Chromosome analysis reveals male karyotype.”
The test results reportedly were carried out at Dr Lal PathLabs in New Delhi, which is accredited by the American College of Pathologists and certified by the Swiss-based International Organization for Standardization.
The leak of the medical report comes just days after World Boxing ruled that Khelif would need to undergo sex screening to be eligible to compete in the female category at any future events.

Once new information came out that stated Imane Khelif tested positive for being a male, she knew just who to contact.
The former swimmer took to X and demanded Jemele Hill walk back her comments to Angel Carini, who was the woman who initially lost to Khelif and set off a wave of controversy.
