EMMERDALE LEGEND Dominic Brunt Throws Himself Into Coronation Street Crossover Buzz
Dominic Brunt, the beloved stalwart of Emmerdale, has officially thrown his hat in the ring to be part of the soap’s massive upcoming crossover event with Coronation Street.
ITV confirmed this week that the new 2026 schedule will launch with an unmissable hour-long crossover episode, kicking off a fresh era of back-to-back 30-minute episodes every weeknight.
The epic crossover won’t just link the two soaps permanently — it promises a jaw-dropping stunt, exciting new characters arriving, and some emotional departures. Dominic’s involvement only adds to the mounting anticipation.
We don’t know who will feature in the special, and it seems that neither do the cast. Brunt, who’s been playing Paddy Kirk since 1997, really hopes he’s one of the lucky ones.
“Lord..Please please please let me be in this story..,” he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “If not, I’ll be popcorn at the ready anyway.
“Imagine the potential slanging matches, the affairs, the fights, the comedy, the tragedy..even just for that episode!! As a viewer I can’t wait, as a cast member I await the script.”

Soap fans will actually get the chance to decide which cast which two characters — one from each soap — will meet and interact in a scene in the special, with information on how that will work out being revealed next month.
The crossover will air in January, promising to bring the new year in with a bang.

After the special airs, Emmerdale will start airing every weekday at 8pm followed by Coronation Street immediately after at 8.30pm. Episodes of both will continue to be available early on ITVX at 7am on the day of broadcast.
Meanwhile, some major behind-the-scenes changes have just been announced for both soaps.
