Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway has been flooded with support from fans after she shared an update on her personal life. The proud mum, 58, shared that the family was creating a “fresh start” after her husband, Derek Draper, d!ed last year.

In an emotional Instagram post, Kate shared that her daughter was now off to university. Sharing a video from her car, which she monikers as “Vicky Volvo”, the ITV star told fans that she had a “very happy daughter” who had been “duly delivered to uni”. She continued: “Now, I’m just taking a moment to have a brew before we head off, or I head off. It’s a big one, isn’t it? Because you’re so proud of them and you know it’s what they want. Everyone seemed fantastic where she was. But it’s also a big change and a big moment.” Kate then wished luck to anyone else in the same position as her and her 19-year-old daughter, Darcey.

“Good luck to anyone starting a new chapter this week – let’s make it a good one! Happy Sunday everyone.xx #freshstarts #unilife.”

Fans rushed to share words of comfort with Kate. One commented, “Good luck, Darcy and Kate. It is a hard but proud one.”

Kate recently admitted how hard she found it seeing her children start a new chapter as she referenced her late husband Derek Draper, who had shared school drop-offs in the past before his tragic death in 2024.

Sitting in the driving seat, Kate began: “What is it about kids? They never change, do they? They just manage to break your heart in a million different ways. I’ve sat here with a flash – or a cup – of tea with Derek on their first day of school, going to secondary and waiting outside for GCSE results as you are not allowed to go in with them to collect those.

“And now I am just dropping off for the first day of sixth form college, some distance from the school, but with enough of a vantage point to check they walk in. There is something about the walk in when you know they are anxious but trying to be strong that just gets me every time.”
