SO SAD: ITV Announces Sad News Over the Absence of Coronation Street Actress Audrey Roberts.
Coronation Street spoilers for next week have confirmed a significant Audrey Roberts development after several months absent from our screens. The beloved character, portrayed by Sue Nicholls, is a true television icon — having made her first appearance way back in 1979. Audrey arrived on the cobbles as the mother of Gail (Helen Worth), and it wasn’t long before she established herself as a firm fan favourite.
Over the decades, viewers have experienced both heartache and happiness alongside Audrey, including her wedding to Alf Roberts (Bryan Mosley) in 1985 and his devastating passing in 1999. Audiences have also witnessed Audrey become a great-grandmother to characters such as Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon), as well as watching her run the iconic hairdressing salon alongside grandson David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd).

Much like her daughter, Audrey has also enjoyed a turbulent romantic life on the famous street. Following Alf’s death, she embarked on a relationship with butcher Fred Elliott (John Savident), reports the Daily Star. She later became engaged to former male escort and con man Lewis Archer (Nigel Havers).
Lewis ultimately turned over a new leaf with the intention of marrying Audrey, before his sudden death in 2019. In recent months, however, Audrey has been conspicuously absent from the soap, prompting considerable concern amongst devoted fans. The character is currently overseas in France with her daughter Gail.
Nevertheless, next week’s spoilers have provided an update on Audrey. In Monday’s episode (July 20), the Platt family film a birthday message for Audrey, before police arrive and arrest Sarah on suspicion of murdering Theo Silverton (James Cartwright). The news will undoubtedly disappoint Coronation Street viewers as it seems Audrey remains in France with Gail, with a Weatherfield comeback unlikely to materialise in the near future.

Before her Corrie stint, Sue had a secret singing career and secured her initial soap appearance in the legendary Crossroads.
In 1968, she released a song called Where Will You Be?, which climbed to number 17 in the UK Music Charts, and it is reported that she also sang in a cabaret club in Vienna during her younger years.
She also established herself as a familiar face on our television screens, appearing in The Rise and Fall of Reginald Perrin alongside Leonard Rossiter from 1976-1979, and as Nadia Popov in Rentaghost from 1981-1984.
