King Charles ‘furious’ over Harry and Meghan’s potential BBC deal as Sussexes make fresh UK media move
King Charles could be left “furious” if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle strike a new deal with the BBC, according to reports, as the Sussexes explore fresh opportunities with British broadcasters following their return to the UK.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are reportedly considering working with UK television networks as they begin a new chapter closer to Harry’s family.
But any potential BBC project could prove deeply uncomfortable for the Palace, particularly as Charles has been attempting to rebuild his relationship with his youngest son behind closed doors.
A source told RadarOnline.com that the prospect of Harry and Meghan working with the BBC would “inevitably cause anxiety at the Palace”.
The insider claimed Charles would be particularly concerned if another television project resulted in renewed public discussion of private Royal Family matters.
“If it became another vehicle for discussing private royal matters, he would be furious,” the source alleged.
The prospect comes with the Sussexes reportedly taking a different approach to their media career now that they are spending more time in Britain.
Rather than pursuing another enormous streaming agreement similar to their previous Netflix deal, the couple could reportedly explore individual programmes with the BBC or commercial broadcasters.
According to another source, returning to Britain “completely changes the landscape” for Harry and Meghan.
“They don’t need another gigantic Netflix-style agreement,” the insider claimed.
Instead, the Sussexes could potentially develop individual television projects while retaining greater control over what they produce and how their stories are presented.
That possibility is likely to attract intense scrutiny given the couple’s previous high-profile media projects, some of which examined their experiences within the Royal Family and their relationship with the institution.
For Charles, the prospect of another production touching on royal affairs could be particularly unwelcome at a time when he is reportedly hoping to improve relations with Harry.
The King’s relationship with his son has been under enormous public scrutiny since Harry and Meghan stepped away from royal duties and relocated to the United States.
Now, with the Sussexes spending an extended period in Britain with Archie and Lilibet, the family dynamic appears to be entering another uncertain phase.
The couple are reportedly expected to retain their Montecito home while spending more time in the UK, giving them the possibility of maintaining a life on both sides of the Atlantic.
And while their return could create opportunities for family reconciliation, it could also place the Sussexes back at the centre of Britain’s fiercely watched royal media landscape.
A BBC deal would therefore be far more than another television contract.
It could test the fragile progress reportedly being made between Harry and his father — and potentially put the Palace on alert once again.
