UTTERLY DISAPPOINTED: A Place in the Sun Host Laura Hamilton Shares Serious Issue on Channel 4 Property Show That Left Her Devastated

Laura Hamilton của A Place in the Sun

Laura Hamilton, the host of A Place in the Sun, has confessed to feeling frustrated by some “crazy” buyers during her tenure on the show.

Having been a part of the Channel 4 property programme for over a decade, Laura spoke about the “timeless” appeal of the show and its “perfect recipe” of sun, escape, people and property.

Each episode sees experts assisting brave UK house-hunters in their quest to find a property abroad. Yet, given the sunny premise of the show, it seems reasonable to assume there would be curiosity about the intentions of some participants.

In a recent interview, Laura was asked whether people join the show just to bag a free trip abroad. The 43-year-old presenter quickly dispelled this notion.

Speaking to Woman magazine, she said: “No! It’s a week’s work; it’s full on and busy. When someone comes on, they have no idea how TV works; they don’t know where they’re going; we keep everything a surprise.”

She added: “It’s a big decision. It’s not a holiday. If some people decide not to buy, I never get offended as it’s such a personal thing. These are big decisions.”

However, she did admit to one particular frustration regarding the guests, stating: “I have shown people houses and thought, ‘You’re not going to buy this? You’re crazy!’ But you have to respect people’s choices.”

Last month, Jasmine Harman, a fellow presenter on A Place In The Sun, shared an embarrassing anecdote from her career on the show’s YouTube channel. She recounted a “funny” incident involving a microlight.

Although she didn’t find it amusing at the time, she can now “look back on it” and laugh about the ordeal. Jasmine said: “It was when we were filming in a microlight and I had this very handsome, kind of Tom Cruise-esque pilot flying me. But I started to get a bit of motion sickness and ended up vomiting inside my helmet, I was very embarrassed.”

In other news, Laura Hamilton took to social media earlier this year to share some exciting news about the United Arab Emirates. She revealed that she’d been visiting Dubai over the past 12 months.

She stated: “You might have seen that from my stories and posts that I have been doing. I have been coming to Dubai for many years and when you do the job that I do you love exploring the world.”

Laura announced that she’d been “seriously looking” at the local property market, speaking with developers and exploring different areas. She then revealed that she’d purchased her “very own property here in Dubai, in Dubai marina”.

She concluded: “It’s a move that’s all about property, potential, and thinking internationally. A new investment in a place known for its sunshine, skyline, and serious opportunity.”

OUTRAGE ERUPTS : Rachel Reeves Delivers a DEADLY BLOW to Britain’s Elderly

Rachel Reeves urged to hit pensioners with new tax raid in Budget as over 60s now hold half of UK’s wealth

Rachel Reeves urged to hit pensioners with new tax raid in Budget as over 60s now hold half of UK's wealth

Nigel Farage explodes at ‘direct attack on thrift’ as Rachel Reeves mulls tax on pensioners

Rachel Reeves is under pressure to hit pensioners with higher taxes in her next Budget as new figures have revealed over-60s now hold nearly half of the UK’s wealth.

Older generations have tightened their grip on assets, controlling 49 per cent of the nation’s total, up from 39 per cent in 2008, according to new research.

The analysis by the Resolution Foundation highlights how financial power has shifted towards pensioners over the past decade and a half, largely thanks to soaring house prices rather than investment gains.

The findings come as the government faces growing calls to rethink how wealth is taxed, with some experts suggesting future budgets could target property owners and retirees in a move that could raise £6billion.

It also shines a light on the growing wealth gap between generations. The typical difference in assets between someone in their early thirties and someone in their early sixties has more than doubled over the past 14 years.

The Resolution Foundation’s research reveals that property values and pension holdings now constitute 80 per cent of household wealth in Britain.

This concentration of assets amongst older demographics has prompted debate about potential policy responses to address the growing disparity.

The Foundation has urged the Chancellor to take the tax burden away from younger workers and onto pensioners.

The stark reality of this wealth accumulation becomes clearer when examining specific figures. Individuals in their early thirties saw their wealth increase by merely £8,000 over the 14-year period, whilst the average pensioner experienced gains of £150,000 in real terms.

    Rachel Reeves and mortgage costs

The Resolution Foundation’s research reveals that property values and pension holdings now constitute 80 per cent of household wealth in Britain

The Resolution Foundation’s analysis reveals that reaching the threshold for Britain’s wealthiest 10 per cent now requires £1.3million in assets.

Back in 2008, the gap was around £135,000. By 2022, it had grown to £310,000 once adjusted for inflation. For younger workers and millennials, slow wage growth and high housing costs have held back wealth, while older generations have seen their property and pensions climb sharply in value.

A worker would need to save their entire salary for 52 years to achieve this level, making it mathematically impossible for someone beginning employment at 16 and retiring at state pension age.

The Resolution Foundation has proposed raising income tax by two per cent while cutting National Insurance by the same amount.

Because pensioners and the self-employed do not pay NI, they would shoulder more of the extra cost, while employees on salaries would see their higher income tax bill offset by the NI reduction.

The plan, which could raise around £6billion for the Treasury, carries weight given the think tank’s close ties with senior figures in government.

    Pension folder

The foundation argues higher wealth taxes are likely to fall on pensioners

Molly Broome, from the Resolution Foundation, acknowledged the implications: “With property and pensions now representing 80 per cent of household wealth, we need to be honest that higher wealth taxes are likely to fall on pensioners, Southern homeowners or their families, rather than just being paid by the super-rich.”

She also highlighted concerns about wealth mobility, stating: “These gaps are doubly concerning as wealth mobility in Britain is low people that start life wealthy tend to stay wealthy and vice versa.”

Jon Kay indundated with support as he shares career news away from BBC Breakfast | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV | Express.co.uk

BBC Breakfast’s Jon Kay brought the show to a sudden pause as he shared some “shocking” news. During today’s edition of the hit BBC show, host Jon, 55, and Sarah Champball made a return to our TV screens as they delivered the latest news from across the UK and around the world from the iconic red sofa.

However, the atmosphere in the studio took a sudden turn as Jon shared the “shocking” number of d3aths due to homelessness. Speaking to viewers at home, he said, “Now these are some shocking figures to give you. D3aths among the homeless rose to almost nine percent last year. That’s according to an organisation that monitors homelessness in the UK.” Sarah continued: “The Museum of Homelessness says that at least 1,600 people d!ed in 2024. That’s up from around 1,400 in 2023.”

Jon then revealed: “Of those people, 11 were children, four of which were babies under the age of one.”

Sarah jumped in: “Despite the overall rise across the UK, the numbers of homeless people dying in Scotland and Wales actually fell in 2024.”

The duo were joined by co-founder of the Museum of Homeless Matt Turtle, who admitted that he is “not shocked” by the findings.

He explained: “We have been carrying out these investigations for several years now and every year we are reporting rises. For many viewers they will find it shocking because we are talking about some of the hardest stories our society can create.”

Matt continued: “I know the things that are happening and so I have to remind myself. The thing that really does shock me is when we are going through some of the human stories and seeing what people are experiencing in towns and cities around the UK, that’s what really breaks my heart.”

Jon asked: “Do you think the actual figure could actually be higher than what you have come up with?”

Matt admitted: “Oh absolutely, they are definitely higher. We know they are higher because not all councils give us information. So much information we get is anonymized because the council is returning a number to us in a form of a freedom of information request.

“So we don’t even get to remember people by their name a lot of the time so we know because not all the councils submit to us, we know the figure is higher and that has brought out another research as well.”

BREAKING: Dolly Parton’s furious response after sister asks for prayers

Country music icon Dolly Parton is not in dire medical straights after concerns were raised when her sister asked for fans to pray for her welfare.

Younger sister Freida sent fans into a tailspin by declaring that she was “up all night praying” for Dolly, who just cancelled her winter Caesars’ Palace shows.

However, has now Dolly fired back at concerns with an update on why she is currently taking time off work.

The 79-year-old icon has been battling severe kidney stones and needs time to recover.

Her English manager Olly Rowland confirmed that the worries were overblown, adding: “It’s just the kidney stones, and the procedure she needs to resolve those.

“It looks like her sister posted, and it got quite a bit blown out of proportion, weirdly.”

Freida, one of Dolly’s five sisters among her 11 siblings, triggered worries after her Facebook post where she stated: “Last night, I was up all night praying for my sister, Dolly. Many of you know she hasn’t been feeling her best lately. I truly believe in the power of prayer, and I have been led to ask all of the world that loves her to be prayer warriors and pray with me.”

After Rowland’s comments, Freida went back on Facebook to diffuse the online outburst of love.

“I didn’t mean to scare anyone or make it sound so serious,” Freida added “She’s been a little under the weather and I simply asked for prayers because I believe so strongly in the power of prayer. It was nothing more than a little sister asking for prayers for her big sister. Thank you all for lifting her up. Your love truly makes a difference.”

It comes after Dolly said God was ‘telling her to slow down’ after her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, died aged 82 in March this year.

Announcing the postponement of what would have been her first Vegas residency in more than 30 years, Jolene singer Dolly wrote on Instagram on September 29: “As many of you know, I have been dealing with some health challenges, and my doctors tell me that I must have a few procedures.

“As I joked with them, it must be time for my 100,000-mile check-up, although it’s not the usual trip to see my plastic surgeon.

“In all seriousness, given this, I am not going to be able to rehearse and put together the show that I want you to see. You pay good money to see me perform, and I want to be at my best for you.

“Don’t worry about me quittin’ the business because God hasn’t said anything about stopping yet. But I believe he is telling me to slow down right now so I can be ready for more big adventures with all of you.”

Sh0cking: “This Show Is RIGGED!” – Furious Strictly Fans Explode: “We’ve Been LIED TO

Viewers of BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing have reacted with fury after learning that contestant George Clarke will perform his Couple’s Choice routine to Soda Pop from K-Pop Demon Hunters during Movie Week.

The announcement, made through the programme’s Instagram account revealing dance assignments for the themed week, prompted an immediate backlash from supporters of the social media personality.

Multiple fans took to social platforms to voice their displeasure, with one writing that the decision had made them “genuinely angry and upset” for the contestant.

One shared: “Nah that’s not on, why are they wasting George’s couples choice so early on a s***ty song? #Strictly.”

    George Clarke and Alexis Warr

Strictly Come Dancing fans expressed outrage over George Clarke’s upcoming dance

“MAKING GEORGE DO HIS COUPLE’S CHOICE TO SODA POP????? I’m sorry that’s genuinely made me so angry and upset for him, it’s literally called couple’s CHOICE, it makes no sense when soda pop is a salsa song #Strictly,” another penned.

“George and Alexis got wronged, they’ll still somehow find a way to make Soda Pop good though,” another wrote.

“So upset for George what the f***, he should’ve got given a Salsa/Samba for that song instead of them wasting his Couple’s Choice dance on week 3 to a song he doesn’t even know #Strictly.”

“George being the first celeb to do a couple’s choice this season of #Strictly and he’s doing it to soda pop for k – pop demon hunters,” another posted.

A sixth commented: “Interesting that soda pop is a couples choice! Excited to see what Alexis is gonna bring to the table choreo wise.” (sic)

The song selection has particularly frustrated fans who believe Soda Pop would be better suited to Latin dance styles like salsa or samba.

Despite the controversy surrounding his upcoming performance, Mr Clarke has demonstrated strong form in the competition’s opening weeks.

The 25-year-old secured third position on the leaderboard across the first fortnight, sitting behind Lewis Cope and Amber Davies.

His Paso Doble to Game of Survival by Ruelle earned 30 points from the judging panel, with Shirley Ballas identifying him as a potential frontrunner.

However, Mr Clarke recently disclosed on The Useless Hotline Podcast that he had required urgent physiotherapy treatment after sustaining a back injury during rehearsals.

The content creator explained that a handstand attempt went awry, resulting in a pinched nerve that necessitated acupuncture and four physiotherapy sessions.

He chose not to mention the injury during his television performance, declining producers’ offers to reference it in his pre-recorded segment.

During Tuesday’s It Takes Two programme, presenter Janette Manrara discussed Mr Clarke’s previous performance with former professional dancer Joanne Clifton.

Mrs Clifton noted that whilst Mr Clarke displayed impressive lines with “the energy of a violin string when it is pulled tight,” judge Motsi Mabuse had identified a need for improved fluidity between movements.

The choreographer observed that transitions between steps appeared disconnected, suggesting Mr Clarke needed to work on creating smoother connections throughout his routines.

Prince William and Catherine, the Princess of Wales, are widely praised for their down-to-earth approach to royal engagements, but insiders say that Catherine has a particularly striking way of connecting with people—one that often leaves her security team struggling to keep up.

Chief Scout Dwayne Fields, who has met the Princess of Wales multiple times in her role as joint-President of the Scout Association, shared an insight into Catherine’s unique approach to royal visits.

Speaking to the Daily Mail’s Richard Eden at the Employee Network Awards at the London Hilton on Park Lane, Fields recounted how Catherine immediately puts people at ease.

“I wonder if her security have an easy job trying to mind her,” Fields said. “As soon as she arrives, she makes everyone feel comfortable. She’ll get down on the ground… to their level… physically their level.”

He continued: “If they’re sat down on the floor, reading maps or drawing or doing art or being creative, she’s gonna sit on the floor as well.” Fields added that this small but thoughtful gesture helps those around her feel instantly at ease and highlights Catherine’s natural warmth and empathy.

This approach isn’t just theoretical. The Princess of Wales and her husband, Prince William, demonstrated it firsthand during a visit to a children’s shelter in the Indian capital, Delhi, in 2016.

Despite concerns from their security detail that the outing could become chaotic, the couple insisted on leaving some of their protection officers behind to interact more freely with the children.

Sanjoy Roy, co-founder of the Salaam Baalak Trust, said: “”When William and Catherine came to see this project, [representatives] called saying, ‘They’re happy to come without security.’

“I tried to dissuade them, saying, ‘No can do – it’s too dangerous. Just don’t come.’ But Will and Kate said, ‘No, we really want to.’ They were so wonderfully respectful,” Roy said. “It was quiet, calm, and meaningful. No drama – just genuine care.”

The couple met children at the railway station shelter, many of whom had survived trafficking, violence, and gang exploitation.

In May, the Duke of Sussex lost his appeal against the dismissal of his High Court claim against the Home Office over the decision of the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec) that he should receive a different degree of protection when in the UK.

The challenge came after Harry and Meghan left the UK and first moved to Canada, and then California, after announcing they wanted to step back as senior royals.

As a result of the ruling, Prince Harry, 40, said he “can’t see a world in which I would be bringing my wife and children back to the UK”.

It saw the 60-year-old ultimately select Cameron B and Elsa as his two choices.

Explaining his choice behind Elsa to the group, Richard said: “You are a beautiful girl inside and out.

“However, I’ve just had a prevailing perception that for whatever reason you don’t seem entirely comfortable.

“If that were true, I might actually being doing you a favour.”

A third penned: “Elsa is fuming at being one of Richard’s Cursed Eye nominations.”

It comes as viewers accused Elsa of “gaslighting” co-star Marcus amid “fake showmance” rumours around their relationship.

As they began to argue, Marcus said bluntly: “This is just not healthy.

“It’s getting really toxic at this point.”

He then announced he was going to switch beds from the one he shares with Elsa.

Fans who watched the aftermath of this fall out accused Elsa of “gaslighting”, after she said she didn’t “remember” anything about their conversation.

Marcus said: “It’s just hard for me to sort of look past some of the things you were saying last night. Do you know what I mean?”

To which Elsa bluntly replied: “But I can’t remember what I said.”

Marcus then said: “Well I know, but you still said it.”

“Why is Elsa pretending she can’t remember!? THE GASLIGHTING,” one said.

Another person fumed: “Fair play to Marcus. Elsa is gonna ruin his BB experience at this rate.

“As a girl, I’m team Marcus on this one, she’s just too much.

A third chimed in: “Sorry but there’s no way Elsa “forgot” what she said to Marcus.

“She gives stroppy-child energy — even her voice sounds babyish, I don’t buy that it’s genuine.”

Dianne Buswell has been forced to make a Strictly Come Dancing confession after he instruction to Stefan Dennis during their latest performance was ‘exposed’.

The professional dancer and Neighbours legend are among the couples competing in the BBC One dance contest this year, with their partnership being revealed during the 2025 series launch show last month.

The pair have since gone on to deliver two performance on the show so far, the first being a Foxtrot to the Neighbours Theme by Barry Crocker, which was described as a “brilliant effort” by the judges.

However, Stefan admitted to being ‘stumped’ by his latest routine, which took place during the second live show of the series on Satureday night (October 4) as the judges noted was littered with mistakes.

The actor, famed for playing Paul Robinson in Neighbours, and fellow Aussie Dianne, who is pregnant with her first child, performed and 80s-themed cha cha to Give It Up by KC And The Sunshine Band, scoring 17 out of a possible 40.

Kicking off the feedback, Motsi Mabuse said, “You have a brilliant partnership, and you have a brilliant energy. You guys are like sunshine when you pair up together.

“I am gonna have to address the elephant in the room. There were lots of tiny, tiny mistakes everywhere. Let’s try next time to rehearse and stick to the routine. We have to get one performance without those tiny, tiny creepers in there, and you guys are brilliant together.”

But head judge Shirley Ballas didn’t seem to think the mistakes were down to lack of practice. She said that the duo “started well” but then “nerves” got the better of Stefan.

She said: “Sometimes that happens to the best of anybody. They get nervous, then they start making mistakes. Brush it aside. You move on.”

Stefan did own up very quickly to the mistakes in his routine and before receiving their scores, Claudia Winkleman pointed out, “And he [Stefan] has been getting frustrated with himself.”

Now, Dianne has revealed that she was almost responsible for one of the mistakes in the routine. It was caught on a secret microphone that captures the dancers conversations from the dance floor before the Strictly team cut them all together to make a must-watch social media reel.

In the latest, Dianne was heard shouting out to Stefan during a jaw-dropping floor part of their routine. But the reigning Strictly champ confessed what she said was wrong.

In the comments section of the Instagram post, Dianne wrote: “Not the pro saying left leg and then going oh no I meant right [crying laughing emojis].” She then replied to herself and added: “That pro I speak about is me btw [crying laughing emoji].”

Dianne also shared the post to her Instagram Story, to which she told her followers: “I scream ‘left leg’ by accident. I totally meant right. Lucky my partner didn’t listen to me [crying laughing emoji].”
