EXCLUSIVE: Saturday Kitchen star feared being ‘cancelled’ after awkward live bombshell

Saturday Kitchen star Poppy O’Toole went viral after making an awkward blunder on the TV show. The chef, who grew to fame on TikTok, landed a gig on the popular ITV show which sees her whip up a dish on Saturday mornings with Matt Tebbutt, but she thought she was going to lose the gig after making a mistake.

Speaking to Express.co.uk as she released her latest “Poppy Cooks” cookbook, she said: “I was naive, but it was one of the funniest things. I was trying to say on a whim, but I just couldn’t get there, so I accidentally said quim.” Quim is considered a vulgar slang word.

Poppy continued: “I learned my lesson, but I had never heard of the word. I could see Matt’s face and I could tell that someone was talking in his ear and I was like, ‘something has happened’.”

Matt then issued an on-air apology, but couldn’t explain to Poppy what she had done until the break.

She said: “I was thinking, ‘Oh my God, what have I done?’ I was thinking that I was going to get cancelled. I was going through everything I had said because I didn’t know.”

When the segment finally went to the ad break, Poppy said Matt and the others on set couldn’t stop laughing while Poppy was desperately asking what she had done wrong.

The producer rushed down to her and reassured her everything was okay, telling her she had said a “really old vulgar word”. Luckily, bosses could see that she was none the wiser.

But as the clip went viral, Poppy said she just had to own it.

Poppy ended up sharing the clip to her feed on TikTok and laughed at herself, which gathered a lot of support from her fans who thought it was hilarious.

She kicked off her career in TikTok after working in a kitchen for years and has taken on a very different schedule since, but she’s still busy as ever. Alongside what she has referred to as a 24/7 job, she’s also released multiple cookbooks, including The Potato Book which is in line with her “potato queen” persona.

Linda herself shot to fame starring with Rylan on Celebrity Gogglebox, and soon endeared herself to fans. She’s also appeared with her son on his radio show and on ITV’s This Morning.

This week, Linda was booked to cut the ribbon on a Christmas grotto at her local garden centre, sharing a snap of her alongside a man dressed as Santa and one of the workers. Rylan gushed: “My mum was asked to open the Christmas grotto at our local garden centre where she goes all the time and genuinely I’ve never been more proud xx LOOK AT HER!” along with three love heart emojis.

His A-lister pals couldn’t get enough in the comments section, with Denise Van Outen sharing a heart-eyed emoji as Michelle Visage said: “I LOVE YOU LINDA!! Look at that pride!”

Rylan told the Daily Star that he would love to do more TV work with his mum, but she’s simply “not well enough”. Linda has severe Crohn’s disease, which has no cure, and in 2021 was diagnosed with skin cancer.

UNBELIEVABLE: Coronation Street icon banned from Strictly Come Dancing for one reason

A Coronation Street star has suggested the real reason fans will never see him on Strictly Come Dancing. Jack P Shepherd, who plays David Platt, has said that appearing on the BBC dance competition is firmly off the cards for him. Speaking to The Daily Star at the National Television Awards, the actor explained: “I wouldn’t ever want to do Dancing On Ice, but that’s finished now. But Strictly Come Dancing, no, that’s on BBC, you have to leave ITV for that.” It means that Jack is firmly staying loyal to ITV, and Strictly fans will be disappointed as there is no hope of the star appearing on the show in the future.

In the past, former ITV soap stars have had to step away from their roles before signing up to the BBC’s Strictly, for instance, Kim Marsh and Catherine Tyldesley, who played Eva Price and Michelle Connor respectively.

During his time on the soap, Jack hasn’t ruled out other reality TV opportunities, as he recently won the latest celebrity addition of Big Brother.

Over the years, his character has continued to be a fan favourite and has gone through plenty of emotional and turbulent storylines, including the death of his wife, Kylie Platt.

He won the British Soap Award for Best Actor in 2018, and in 2008, he was named Villain of the Year. In 2020, he won Best Soap Actor at the TV Choice Awards.

On Friday night (October 3), the Only Connect stepped in as host on the evening talk show, welcoming panellists Sheila Hancock, Miles Jupp, Ian Hislop, and Paul Merton.

In one segment, Victoria asked the teams who will benefit from Sir Keir Starmer’s decision to introduce the ID scheme, before telling them: “I was thinking of the company Multiverse, who has been chosen to run the digital ID cards scheme.” She then added that the company was founded by Tony Blair’s son Euan, joking: “That’s a happy coincidence, isn’t it?”

But now, claims that Multiverse will run the government project have been debunked by fact-checking company FullFact, which states: “This isn’t true, according to both the government and Multiverse, which is an ‘upskilling company’, not a software developer.”

It added: “The government has not announced any partner for the project. It’s understood the government expects digital ID to be designed, built and run by an in-house team, not outsourced to external suppliers, although there has been some media speculation about whether the scheme may create opportunities for other tech firms.”

Today (October 4), Victoria has addressed the embarrassing blunder with a short statement online. Taking to X – formerly known as Twitter – she penned: “Meanwhile, if you see a clip of me saying the ID card contract has gone to Tony Blair’s son: it hasn’t.

“That was something I was given to ask about last night, but turns out to be incorrect. Which is bad news for the fact checkers but good news for social mobility.”

The information appears to come from viral social media posts, but FullFact reports that there is “no evidence” of Blair’s son or the company being involved in the project, despite Tony Blair’s public advocation for the idea in the past.

Fans were left outraged by the unexpected error, with one post on social media: “Not just a throwaway quip but part of the script. Someone is getting a massive telling-off for this. (I bet it will be chopped out of the iPlayer edit too).”

Another agreed: “Oh my god. Have I Got News For You just referred to this completely false claim as a fact!” as someone else fumed: “Absolutely astonished, Have I Got News For You just stated that Multiverse will be running the government’s digital ID scheme. An incredibly basic failure of fact-checking.”

A BBC spokesperson later told Express.co.uk: “This week’s Have I Got News For You contained an inaccurate story about Euan Blair’s company, Multiverse, being chosen to develop the government’s contract to produce digital ID cards.

Multipverse is not a software developer, and there is no evidence of any involvement in the proposed digital ID scheme; therefore, we have taken the episode off BBC iPlayer while we edit the relevant section out. We apologise for this unintentional editorial oversight.”

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology told us: “Claims that Multiverse has been chosen to develop the Government’s digital ID app are false. No decisions have been made on its delivery, but we expect it to be designed, built, and run by in-house Government teams – not outsourced to external suppliers.

“As we said last week, we will launch a public consultation to ensure we get the best possible input on the delivery and design of the scheme.”

After listening to the criticism, Karen and Carlos received a total score of 20 points out of 40, 11 points less than the previous week. At this point, Karen’s admission sparked concern among viewers online, who flocked to social media to voice their concerns.

While the latest series of Strictly Come Dancing was already rocked by several scandals before it even began, one thing that has remained steady on the BBC show is the unbreakable bond between hosts Tess and Claudia.

This year, as the BBC One dance show celebrates its 21st anniversary, the duo will be marking their 11th year as co-hosts. And their on-screen chemistry is as strong as ever. “Tess has such a strong bond with Claudia,” a source exclusively told OK!.

“They’re great friends and both very career-driven, but they also have great chemistry on the telly. And they’ve got each other’s back – always.”

She shared her concerns about Becky being out in public so freely, despite possibly being a danger to her family. She then made it clear to Kit that she didn’t buy the claims from Becky and Costello about her fake d3ath and the reasons.

 

Kit questioned this, before admitting to Carla he too had his suspicions. He then revealed there was someone who might have the answers they both needed, and he vowed to contact them.

Of course Costello was spying on the pair, and he soon learned about Kit making contact with DI Crawley. Wanting Kit to back off once more, he told him he was considering promoting Kit for all of his hard work.

He vowed to push forward with it, but it was so obvious that he was trying to keep Kit onside to stop him digging any further. So it’s clear from this that Costello is hiding something, and perhaps Becky is too.

But is Kit stringing Costello along, after seeming to accept the bribe? He claimed he’d thought about it and wanted to progress to DS, happy to go along with what Costello had said.

Some fans think he’s lying though, and will use the new role against him. Viewers suggested Kit could be lying to keep him onside, and may continue to dig into Costello behind his back to find out the truth.

Taking to X, one fan said: “Kit knows exactly what Costello is doing and is going along with it so he can bring Costello down.” Another agreed: “I’m hoping Kit takes it as a sign Costello is as corrupt as he believes & keeps investigating.”

Amy Dowden has learned to ‘take risks’ since beating cancer. The Strictly Come Dancing star was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2023, but was given the all-clear around eighteen months ago.

The professional dancer, 35, is back on the BBC favourite this year and is paired up with Apprentice star Thomas Skinner. After the pair completed a Salsa routine set to Dizzee Rascal’s Bonkers in which she was lifted up and spun round, she told host Claudia Winkleman that ‘life is too short’ to not try new things.

The pair didn’t receive the best feedback for their routine, and only managed to score a total of 13 from judges Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke. But, afterwards, Amy joked that her partner’s concentration face left her a little bit scared during rehearsals.

Explaining all about Tom’s concentration face, she said: “It was okay until we had to do lifts and I was high up there and he had his eyes shut,” before adding that she does ‘trust’ him. She turned to him and said: “I’m so proud of you!”

The Welsh dancer revealed she was initially scheduled for a lumpectomy after doctors discovered the tumour. This surgical procedure involves removing just the cancerous lumps and some surrounding tissue.

Cancer Research UK explains that this is often the chosen route when the tumour only affects one area of the breast. However, an MRI scan revealed that Amy, 35, had more tumours than first thought.

She shared: “For me, everything happened so quickly, at first I was having a lumpectomy and then after my MRI, there were more tumours so I needed a mastectomy, and all of a sudden you’re trying to make these decisions so quickly and you’re not really thinking rationally because you’re so emotional, it’s very difficult within the time.

“I do think it’s so important to be given all your options and to understand fully. I also didn’t know what I was going to wake up with, that’s quite worrying and scary as well.

“I didn’t know if it was going to wake up with it open or closed, I didn’t know if I was going to have an expander in, or an implant. Even going down to surgery, and I wanted the honesty, you don’t know what you are going to wake up with or what it’s going to look like.”

Amy’s cancer diagnosis forced her to sit out the 2023 series of Strictly following chemotherapy treatment. In February last year, Amy revealed medics told her they discovered “no evidence of the disease” in her body, paving the way for her Strictly comeback.

She made her return to the programme a year ago, paired with JLS singer JB Gill. However, she was rushed to the hospital in October, pulling out of the competition on November 4.At the time, a Strictly spokesperson said: “Sadly, Amy Dowden MBE will not be partaking in the rest of the competition this year. While Amy focuses on her recovery following a foot injury, fellow professional dancer Lauren Oakley will step in as JB’s dance partner.

“The health and well-being of everyone involved in Strictly are always the utmost priority. The whole Strictly family sends Amy love and well wishes.”

Craig Revel Horwood nearly slipped and fell on Saturday’s Strictly Come Dancing. The professional dancer, 60, was back in his seat on the judging panel alongside Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke where he had spent much of the evening dishing out his typically-acerbic critique to celebrities like Thomas Skinner, Vicky Pattison and Ross King.

Just before Balvinder Sopal, who is known to fans of BBC soap EastEnders for playing Suki Panesar on the long-running programme, took to the stage, Craig leapt out of his seat once it became apparent that his ‘favourite’ routine was about to be performed. The TV star is a huge fan of the Charletson, and excitedly skipped around in front of the cameras.

Tess Daly was just about to introduce Balvinder to the stage, and laughed as Craig excitedly performed a few seconds of the famous routine. But the move didn’t necessarily go down too well with viewers at home as they noticed straight away that he almost lost his footing.

One fan wrote on X: “Craig being iconic but also nearly slipping there,” whilst another said: “Craig nearly slipping lmfaoooo” A third simply asked: “What the hell was that Craig?” whilst a fourth said: “Thought i was about to watch Craig faceplant onto the floor there for a sec.” Another added: “What was that all about with Craig? Balvinder then took to the stage alongside her professional partner Julian Caillon to perform the dance, all set to Been Like This by Meghan Trainor. They received a score of 30, made up of two sevens and two eights.

But Craig’s dancing moment wasn’t the only thing fans issued a complaint over during the second live show of this year’s series. As soon as the programme began, viewers took issue with the fact that presenters Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly do not get their own introduction, even though the judges do.

It was Amber Davies’ night in the end, though, as the former Love Island winner and musical theatre star topped the leaderboard with a score of 56, when combining her scores from this week and the first week of the show.

To make things extra special for the West End actress, she celebrated her 29th birthday on Saturday and was surprised with a cake that came with a picture of her and her professional partner Kai Widdrington printed onto it. Just hours before the show, he surprised her with a large bouquet of flowers along with a Happy Birthday balloon.

The moment was captured on video, and Amber, who will star as Elle Woods in next year’s UK tour of Legally Blonde: The Musical, captioned the Instagram post saying: “Little me would never believe I would be celebrating my last birthday in my twenties on the Strictly ballroom dancefloor.”

It was hoped he’d be recovered by Friday, but instead Stacey Solomon, whom he first discovered on X Factor, was called in to fill his space on the BGT panel and the auditions went ahead without him.

He was back judging at the auditions in Birmingham on Saturday, but had a notable red mark on his forehead as he arrived at the city’s Hippodrome theatre.

A source said: “Simon had a terrible headache and migraine – caused by an accidental bump on the head. He’s fighting fit now though – and was revelling being in Birmingham and back in his judge seat.”

Posting a Instagram message on Instagram from inside the Hippodrome he seemed in good spirits but didn’t reveal any details as to how and when he had the accident.

But Simon now has a home in the Cotswolds, and has fellow panelist and head judge stand-in Amanda Holden as a neighbour, and it is just miles away from this week’s auditions in Britain’s second city.

He simply said in the Instagram message: “It’s Simon, I’m alive and I’m in Birmingham, I just want to say thank you for all your get well messages.” and he pulled the camera close to the graze on his forehead before smiling.

The accident, although apparently minor, is the latest to have befallen the BGT head judge. In 2020 Simon, who’s engaged to Lauren Silverman and has a 11-year-old son Eric, broke his back falling off an electric bike at his home in Los Angeles and have to have an operation and took months to recover.

In 2017, he fell down the stairs at his London home and also seriously banged his head.

He said at the time: “Sometimes we get a reminder that we’re not invincible and this was certainly mine. It was a huge shock.

“They think I fainted because I had low blood pressure and so I have got to really take good care of myself to sort that out.
