Complaints pour in over Denise Welch’s behaviour as Kaye Adams forced to apologise

    The panel were discussing celibacy

Today’s episode of Loose Women sparked a wave of viewer complaints after Denise Welch’s on-screen behaviour prompted Kaye Adams to issue an apology live on air.

Denise Welch and Kaye joined Katie Piper and Jane Moore in the studio for today’s (Friday, October 3) episode.

The panel had been discussing a range of topics, including Prince William’s surprise appearance on Apple TV’s The Reluctant Traveller with Eugene Levy, the rise of skincare obsession among young people, an interview with Emmerdale actress Jaye Griffiths, and the subject of celibacy.

But viewers quickly took to social media to express frustration at Denise’s tendency to talk over her co-hosts.

One segment, in particular, drew attention when Kaye joked that Denise was the show’s “sex correspondent” and asked for her opinion on celibacy.

Denise launched into a story about a woman who is asexual and in a celibate relationship, prompting Katie Piper to quip, “You know a lot about this woman!”

Laughing, Denise replied, “No, I’m certainly not celibate,” before adding, “but I don’t move around very much, you know what I mean.”

Katie responded, “No, I don’t know what you mean.”

“Do not ask her what she means,” Kaye quickly chimed in. The exchange drew laughter from the studio audience, but left some viewers unimpressed.

Later in the segment, Kaye asked Jane Moore whether she thought a marriage could survive without intimacy.

But before Jane could answer, Denise chimed in again, talking over her. At other points, she began speaking while others were mid-sentence, creating a jumble of overlapping dialogue.

Katie later explained the rise of “celibacy influencers”,  younger women rejecting casual sex and discussing how they believe intimacy transfers energy.

“Young people don’t have any fun anymore! What happened to fun?” Denise interjected.

When Katie elaborated further on the idea of energy transfer, Denise joked, “I gave all my energy away a long time ago if that’s the case!”

By the end of the segment, Kaye felt compelled to address Denise’s behaviour.

“It’s with great joy that I apologise to any lip readers for Denise’s language,” she said pointedly.

“What did I say?” Denise asked innocently, to which Kaye replied, “Just be careful!”

    Viewers react

Viewers flooded X, formerly Twitter, with criticism.

One wrote, “#LooseWomen, how annoying is Denise? She just keeps talking over everyone!”

Another branded it “main character syndrome,” while a third posted, “I didn’t realise this is called The Welch Show. Give it up, this should now be called Me Me Me Me.”

Another user tweeted, “I don’t think anyone really cares to hear about Denise’s ‘sexual prowess’ except Denise… #LooseWomen.”

“Omg these women are so annoying,” one viewer fumed. “We don’t need to know about whether you are celibate or not. Did Denise swear? Make sure you have better subjects at LUNCHTIME. Absolutely yuk.”

Her co-presenter Joanne McNally replied: “It’s so sad. It felt very sudden. Even though we knew he was sick it felt very sudden.”

Vogue then said: “I honestly thought I was going to have to take him to the vet and do that for him because he was sick on and off.

Joanne then commented: “Winston is one of the few animals I’ve ever heard of to die naturally in the arms of their owner. Most pets from my experience, they get really sick, they have to be put down, I think there’s something really sweet about the fact that you were with him. In that he died of natural causes.”

Vogue then admitted that she was scared her beloved dog might have died while he was alone in the middle of the night.

“To be honest with you I actually did feel really lucky because I was really stressed about that, or it happening during the night when he was on his own, and then this morning he just lay down by the front door and he just died. He didn’t squeal or anything,” she said.

The death has taken a toll on Vogue as she insisted she never wants to get a pet again.

She explained: “I swear to God I’m never doing it again. After Bertie I’m never getting any pets again, it’s just too sad. I’ve been crying non-stop today and it’s a horrible feeling.”

This Morning viewers fume over Alison Hammond’s double pronunciation ‘blunder’

Alison and Dermot were interviewing Priscilla Presley, Elvis’ ex-wife

Alison Hammond has come under fire from This Morning viewers after a series of awkward blunders during Friday’s show, including repeatedly mispronouncing Elvis Presley’s name as “Alvis” during an interview with his ex-wife, Priscilla Presley.

The 50-year-old host was joined by co-presenter Dermot O’Leary to welcome the Hollywood icon, 80, onto the ITV sofa to promote her new memoir, Softly, As I Leave You: Life After Elvis.

But it was Alison’s slip-ups that dominated viewer reactions online.

Alison Hammond criticised by This Morning viewers

Before Priscilla even began talking, fans on X (formerly Twitter) had already noticed Alison’s repeated mispronunciation of “Elvis”, with some joking that “Alvis” must be a completely different person.

One viewer posted: “Who is Alvis, Alison?”

“Just waiting for Priscilla to ask who the hell is this person Alvis you keep mentioning,” another quipped.

A third joked: “She fell in love with Alvis. Good job Elvis didn’t find out about that!”

Others called for Alison to be corrected on air. “I’d love to see Priscilla correct Alison on name pronunciation.”

Adding to the chaos, Alison was also roasted for mispronouncing the word cushion as “cushin” earlier in the programme.

“Stop saying cushin #ThisMorning,” one frustrated viewer demanded. Another tweeted, “Somebody stop her! #Cushin #ThisMorning,” while a third user joked, “What’s a cushin, Alison? Oh, you mean a cushion!”

Several fans even began sharing side-by-side images of a throw pillow and actor Peter Cushing, sarcastically pointing out the difference between a “cushion” and a “Cushing”. “These are not the same thing,” one tweet read.

Despite the drama, the interview with Priscilla Presley itself took a serious turn as she opened up about her complex relationship with Elvis.

She recalled meeting the King of Rock and Roll when she was just 14 years old while he was stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army in 1959. They married in 1967, welcomed daughter Lisa Marie in 1968, and eventually divorced in 1973.

In her new memoir, Priscilla makes the bombshell claim that Elvis allegedly wanted to hire a hitman to kill her then-boyfriend, karate instructor Mike Stone, after their split.

According to her, Elvis was “unable to handle” the idea of her being with someone else. He reportedly asked his road manager, Joe Esposito, to arrange for Stone to be eliminated.

“Mike had to die,” Priscilla claims Elvis said. Joe, however, warned her to be cautious and eventually talked the singer out of it.

The book also details the emotional fallout of their divorce.

Priscilla lost her daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, in January 2023. She now hopes her memoir will offer an honest, intimate look into life after Elvis.

The presenter also shared updates on who would be joining him during the upcoming series, while co-host Michelle Ackerley is off on maternity leave.

“Michelle’s very much involved. She’s made some films for us,” Rav explained. “But for the lives, we’ve got two presenters. We’ve got Steph McGovern and Jennifer Reoch.”

As footage of the new presenting line-up played on screen, Rav teased: “This is us yesterday in action, and actually one of them wants to have a little chat with us now.”

Steph McGovern then joined the conversation live to talk about her own personal connection to Crimewatch, revealing that she once worked behind the scenes on the programme.

“Yeah, it is [a full circle moment], because I started out at the BBC when I was 19,” she said. “One of my first jobs was as a call handler on Crimewatch. So, one of the team that’s taking all the calls from the viewers and getting information.”

She recalled one vivid memory. “Fiona Bruce was presenting. She came and sat on the table that I was at, and I was desperate to just turn around with my little headset on and be like: ‘Hi, mam.’”

Now, years later, Steph is thrilled to return, but this time, on camera. “It’s a full circle now to be presenting it with Rav. And obviously, Rav is like a Crimewatch legend, so it’s really exciting to be doing it.”

The new series of Crimewatch Live begins Monday, October 6, on BBC One at 10:45 am, continuing its mission to help solve cases by working with police and the public.

Rav Wilding remains at the forefront of the show, which he has helped turn into a daytime staple.

He’ll return to Morning Live in three weeks once filming wraps up. But until then, the team will be cheering him on from the studio.

Kemi Badenoch blasts Tory splitters ‘who want to be a notch on Nigel Farage’s bed post’

Embattled Tory leader Kemi Badenoch sought to downplay the impact of a steady flow of defections from Conservative ranks to Nigel Farage’s Reform party

Kemi Badenoch has faced questions about her leadership amid dismal poll ratings

Kemi Badenoch has said she won’t be distracted by Tory defectors who “want to be a notch on Nigel Farage’s bed post” as she battles to turn round her party’s ailing fortunes.

Former Defence Minister Sarah Atherton became the 18th ex-Tory to join Reform UK on Thursday, in a blow to Ms Badenoch ahead of Conservative conference at the weekend. Last month, sitting MP Danny Kruger defected to Mr Farage’s party.

The Tories will gather in Manchester at the weekend amid recriminations over dismal poll ratings and a string of defections to Reform. Ms Badenoch said Mr Farage was likely to try “a stunt or two” to distract attention during the conference but sought to downplay the impact of Tories joining Reform.

She told ConservativeHome: “If people want to be notches on Nigel Farage’s bedpost, I will remind them of people who went to Labour.

“The same thing happened when Labour was doing well last year, just before the election, we had Dan Poulter and Natalie Elphicke [Tories who joined Labour] cross the floor. Lots of people run to the party they think is ahead.”

She added: “We’ve got, we need, people who believe in what we believe.”

Pressure is mounting on Ms Badenoch after a torrid first year in charge, which has seen Reform steal a march among right-wing voters. But she said she had to focus on rebuilding as the party was at risk of going bankrupt after the disastrous general election defeat.

She added: “The way to do that is going to be painful, very, very painful, and we have to stay the course, hold our nerve and endure it, and then we will come out the other side.

“If we flap every single moment and worry why we haven’t got there after one day, or after one month, or after one year, we’re not going to get there.”

Polling from YouGov found one in five (21%) voters think it’s likely that the Tories will no longer be a major force in 10 years’ time. Nearly half (45%) think Ms Badenoch has done badly as leader, and just one in five (20%) think she has done well.

SHOCKING NEWS:“‘HIGHEST ORDER’ OR HOLLOW PROMISE? Starmer Under Fire After Manchester”

Keir Starmer says police response to Manchester synagogue attack was of ‘highest order

The PM met police following the tragic attack

The Prime Minister and his wife Lady Victoria met Greater Manchester Police officers. The PM said he was “absolutely clear” about the professionalism and speed of the police response, which he said was of the “highest order”.

Two worshippers, Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66, 𝘥𝘪𝘦𝘥 after 𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘵 Jihad Al-Shamie targeted the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue on Thursday. One of the victims 𝘥𝘪𝘦𝘥 as a result of gunshot wounds after armed police opened fire, it emerged on Friday morning.

The PM told officers at Greater Manchester Police headquarters: “I’ve been in Silver Command this morning. I appreciate that we are seeing things, we are being briefed, after the event retrospectively in terms of what happened. You had to deal with things on the ground as they were rolling out at speed.

We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and improve our understanding of you. This may include adverts from us and third parties based on our knowledge of you.

“And the degree of professionalism and speed, that you acted with, was,, at the highest order.”

He stated: “This was a dreadful attack, a 𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘵 attack to inflict fear. Attacking Jews because they are Jews. It’s really important today that the whole country comes together, people of all faiths and no faith, stand in support and solidarity with our Jewish community, and I know that your work will help to that end.”

The Prime Minister added: “We must defeat antisemitism, and that is the responsibility of all of us. It is the responsibility of Government and we will rise to that challenge and do all that we can to absolutely ensure that our Jewish community is safe and secure, and that we show them the strength of the support and solidarity that we have for them.

“That will be massively helped by what you have already done, what you’re continuing to do.”

He said that without police intervention, the consequences of the attack would have been “even worse”. Brave worshippers barricaded themselves inside and kept the killer – who was sh0t 𝘥𝘦𝘢𝘥 by armed officers – at bay.

The PM stated: “I am absolutely clear in my mind of the professionalism of the response, the speed of the response, and also that an absolutely awful incident would have been even worse if it hadn’t been for your response.

“So thank you is a really important two words at a time like this, and I say thank you to each and every one of you, and through you to all the other people that were there responding yesterday and ask that to be passed on to all of those.”

In a statement from No10 soon after Thursday’s attack, the Prime Minister offered his condolences to the victims’ families and those impacted in the “horrific incident”. He promised Jewish people the country will come together in the coming days to “wrap our arms around your community”.

“I promise you that over the coming days, you will see the other Britain, the Britain of compassion, of decency, of love,” Mr Starmer said.

He added: “On behalf of the nation, I want to offer my condolences to the families and victims affected. I want to thank the Greater Manchester police, the first responders and those dedicated security specialists, there is no doubt whatsoever that they have prevented an even greater tragedy, and we thank them for their bravery.”

Mr Starmer paid tribute to police and worshippers

It came as the PM cut short a meeting with European leaders in Denmark to hold an emergency Cobra meeting in London on the attack. The 𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘵 struck as Jewish people gathered on Yom Kippur – the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.

Mr Starmer said: “Britain is also a country where Jewish buildings, synagogues, even schools require round the clock protection, where dedicated specialist security is necessary because of the daily threat of antisemitic hatred.

“Today’s horrific incident shows why. And while this is not a new hate, this is something Jews have always lived with, we must be clear, it is a hatred that is rising once again, and Britain must defeat it once again.”

He said the Jewish community in Britain will see a “more visible police presence” as he promised to do “everything in my power to guarantee you the security that you deserve”.

The Prime Minister added: “To every Jewish person in this country, I also want to say this. I know how much fear you will be holding inside of you. I really do.

“And so on behalf of our country, I express my solidarity, but also my sadness that you still have to live with these fears. Nobody should have to do that. Nobody. And so I promise you that I will do everything in my power to guarantee you the security that you deserve, starting with a more visible police presence, protecting your community.

“I promise you that over the coming days, you will see the other Britain, the Britain of compassion, of decency, of love.

“And I promise you that this Britain will come together to wrap our arms around your community and show you that Britain is a place where you and your family are safe, secure and belong.”

HEARTBREAK: Emmerdale Fans Left Stunned As Explosive Drug Plot Twist Unveils Shocking Family Connection

Celia is the one behind the whole thing

Emmerdale fans were left reeling tonight as the mystery of the village’s drug operation finally came to a head and Celia Daneils was revealed as the mastermind behind the illicit activities. It has shocking both the characters on-screen and viewers at home.

Social media erupted as fans shared their disbelief, proving once again that Emmerdale knows how to deliver jaw-dropping drama.

    April almost killed Leo

After being left in charge of Leo on Thursday (October 2) April disobeyed Rhona and Marlon and left him alone. She had to go and do a drug deal for Ray.

However disaster struck as she rushed out of the house and dropped some pills. Thinking they were sweets, Leo ate them – and was soon found collapsed by Rhona.

April returned as Leo was rushed to hospital and she felt awful. Knowing she had to confess, April braced herself to reveal all.

But after she told Dylan what she was going to do and he told Ray, things got dark quickly. And it was then that the true force behind the badness was revealed

Celia Daniels is the drug mastermind in Emmerdale

April didn’t think to question it when she bumped into Celia at the hospital, who then took her for hot chocolate and a chat before she could talk to the police.

It soon became clear why Celia cared when April confided in her about dealing drugs. Celia warned her not to tell the police as the people she was dealing with would not react well.

Then in a shocking transformation, Celia abandoned her compassion and violently slapped April. Celia called her an “ungrateful little wretch,” before adding: “You lost Ray thousands of pounds, and this is how you repay him?”

Celia then revealed that she is Ray’s boss. She threatened April, telling her they’d retaliate and come after April and her family if she told the police the truth.

With Emmerdale exploring the blurred line between truth and lies, April opted to lie to the police. She told them she’d found the pills on the floor in a park and had picked them up and pretended they were hers to look cool in front of her friends.

And the shocks didn’t stop there because soon it was revealed that Celia is Ray’s mum! Celia reduced him to a cowering wreck as she called him “a useless, pathetic, weak little man” for allowing April to humiliate him. She warned him to be tougher with April from now on.

    Fans shocked at Celia twist

Emmerdale viewers couldn’t believe this latest twist. One fan wrote on X: “This reveal was just INCREDIBLE with Celia being Ray’s boss, that slap absolutely SENT ME.”

A second fan said: “I haven’t been gagged at an Emmerdale moment like that in YEARS. Celia is taking it.” While a third fan said: “Ray calling Celia ‘mum’ was such a twist.”

A fourth fan added: “CELIA IS THE WHAT OF WHOOO??!!? NO WAY.”

Speaking about the twist, Jaye Griffiths, who plays Celia said: “At last the audience have seen the familial link between her and Ray and the fact she is the mastermind behind it all.

“There is lots more drama to come but I feel that the context of the whole operation is now apparent and so the audience will now be fearing how trapped these kids are as it’s very clear Celia and Ray are not beginners at this.”

Nigel Farage slams Palestine protesters who were 'celebrating' Manchester synagogue terror attack: 'I've never seen such vile scenes on our streets'

Nigel Farage’s statement on Manchester 𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘳 𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘢𝘤𝘬

Nigel Farage has criticised pro-Palestine protesters who were “celebrating” the Manchester synagogue 𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘳 𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘢𝘤𝘬.

In a statement posted to X, the Reform UK leader said: “I’ve never seen such vile scenes on our streets.”

Two men were killed in the terrorist attack outside the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Crumpsall, and four other men were hospitalised with serious injuries.

Jihad Al-Shamie, a 35-year-old British national of Syrian descent, was shot dead by police at the scene after driving at high speed into a group of Jewish worshippers and using a knife on the victims.

Pro-Palestine protests were taking place just hours after this attack, with one protester outside Downing Street heard shouting: “I don’t give a f*** about the Jewish community right now.”

Mr Farage said: “The scenes of Jewish people being butchered on the streets of Manchester yesterday, I think, have shocked many of us deeply, deeply to the core. And I want to extend on behalf of myself and our party our absolutely most sincere condolences to all of those affected.

“But it’s worse than that. It’s bigger than that. It’s deeper than that. I think the whole Jewish community in Britain are now deeply fearful.

“Within just a few hours of this horrific incident, we saw in London, Glasgow and elsewhere pro-Palestinian flags on the streets, people out, previously unplanned, demonstrating.

“But here’s the truth of it. They weren’t demonstrating. They were actually celebrating. I can’t even imagine we’ve ever seen such vile scenes on our streets. Certainly not in my lifetime.”

Farage vows to scrap indefinite leave to remain, placing thousands at risk of deportation | Reform UK | The Guardian

The Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, has branded the comments heard at the march as “un-British” and “utterly disgraceful”.

she said: “Those messages are utterly disgraceful. They are fundamentally un-British in nature, as far as I’m concerned.”

She called for Britons to “step back from protesting for at least a few days just to give the Jewish community here a chance to process what has happened and to begin the grieving process.”

Ms Mahmood added: “I am very disappointed that some of the organisers haven’t heeded the call to step back.”

Referring to this response  Mr Farage’s statement continued: “In response to this, the Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, says she’s disappointed. disappointed. That’s the most the Home Secretary can say. Well, I hope all of you watching this video are outraged. Outraged and, frankly, frightened.

A member of the public is helped from the scene of an incident at Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue

“This is broken Britain. This is evidence of societal breakdown. It is deeply worrying and very frightening.

“Will this Prime Minister do anything about it? No, in fact, he’s emboldened these people by his recognition of Palestine two weeks ago.

“And never forget, this is the Prime Minister that took the knee just a few short years ago to an extremist group.

“Now, there is a big, big march planned in London this Saturday, and I think the only way we can describe it is a hate march.

“Whether the Home Secretary and the police decide they’ve got the powers to stop it, I don’t know.

“What is for certain is we’re a country that allows peaceful protest, but we’re not a country that allows the celebration of murder or slogans in our streets that are deeply, deeply insightful.”

The Reform UK leader concluded: “I must admit, saying this now to you today, I feel more worried about the state of broken Britain than I ever have before.”

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has visited Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue, where two people died in a 𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘢𝘤𝘬 on Thursday.

Sir Keir held hands with his wife, Lady Victoria Starmer, as they met police officers at the scene of the attack.

In a recorded message to Jewish people, Sir Keir said: “I know how much fear you will be holding inside of you. I really do… Nobody should have to do that. Nobody.

“And so I promise you that I will do everything in my power to guarantee you the security that you deserve, starting with a more visible police presence, protecting your community.

“I promise you that over the coming days, you will see the other Britain, the Britain of compassion, of decency, of love.

George asked Caroline if she had any children, to which she responded: “I couldn’t have them because I had cancer.

“But I never fell in love and then when I knew I couldn’t have them, that’s why I couldn’t be bothered to get married because I didn’t see much point because you get married, have your children and all of that stuff.

“I love kids though, I love them, I am a kid,” she joked before explaining further: “I have nothing, my mum and dad have got no grandchildren but that’s life innit.”

Caroline’s revelation comes after she told her fellow housemates about her secret breast cancer battle she faced years before entering the house.

The PR Executive discussed how she had undergone surgery during her illness but felt she “should be dead” after the disease took over.

Speaking with Feyisola in the bedroom, her co-star complimented her breasts to which Caroline quipped: “Oh they aren’t real because I had breast cancer.

“I should be dead; I should be dead. If I hadn’t have gone when I did…”

Feyisola asked more about her time with the condition and why Caroline decided to have her boobs checked out to which she responded: “I was playing with my necklace.

“I had a cross necklace on and I just thought [feeling her chest], ‘oh, what is that, there?’.

“I went to the doctor and he sent me to the hospital. The woman went, ‘oh my god’. “I had a lumpectomy.

“I still have my nipples thank god. But he put a boob in there and then he said, ‘I might as well put a boob in there too’.”

Caroline started her career in celebrity PR and has rubbed shoulders with a slew of stars over the years.

She was also previously involved with TV presenter, Matthew Wright.

They dated from 2003 while Matthew was hosting his own Channel 5 show The Wright Stuff.

In 2005, while out with Matthew and her mum in Primrose Hill, north London, Caroline was the victim of a “happy slapping” attack.

At the time, she had suffered hair loss from breast cancer treatment and was called a “slaphead” and knocked to the ground by a gang of teenagers.

“Happy slapping” was a new crime phenomenon in the early 2000s where gangs attacked random victims and filmed it on mobile phones.

In her introduction video during Sunday night’s launch show, Caroline revealed she’s been engaged five times, adding: “I’ve tried to live with men and I just can’t.

    “There’s something wrong with them.”

'Utterly disgraceful!' Shabana Mahmood brands Palestine protesters 'un-British' after sickening scenes following terror attack

GB News Breakfast speaks to Shabana Mahmood following Manchester synagogue terror 𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘢𝘤𝘬

The Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, has branded pro-Palestine protesters, who said they don’t support Jews in the UK, as “un-British” and “utterly disgraceful”.

She told GB News that she doesn’t want British Jews to “live a smaller Jewish life because of the fear of antisemitism.”

It follows a terrorist 𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘢𝘤𝘬 outside the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Crumpsall, where two men were killed and four others were hospitalised with serious injuries.

Jihad Al-Shamie, a 35-year-old British national of Syrian descent, was shot dead by police at the scene after driving at high speed into a group of Jewish worshippers and using a knife on the victims.

The two men killed in the terror 𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘢𝘤𝘬 were named as Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66, from Crumpsall.

Speaking to Britain’s news channel, Ms Mahmood said: “My thoughts remain with the victims and the families of all those who have been murdered.

“And I particularly want to thank the members of the community who were worshipping at the synagogue yesterday, whose quick action undoubtedly saved lives.

“Alongside the quick reaction of the police who brought this 𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘢𝘤𝘬 to an end within seven minutes of receiving the first phone call.

“In terms of the 𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘢𝘤𝘬er, this individual was not known to the security services. He has obviously been shot dead at the scene, but the police investigations will now continue at pace.”

The Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, has branded pro-Palestine protesters, who said they don’t support Jews in the UK, as ‘un-British’

The Home Secretary added: “What I want to do is to reassure the community that this Government will take the rising tide of antisemitism seriously.

“We already invest in security for the community, security at places of worship as well as other communal institutions, because we don’t want our Jewish community here in Britain to have to live a smaller Jewish life because of the fear of anti-Semitism.

“It is really important that we hold the line between what is legitimate in our country, which is protest and so on.

“But that behaviour which crosses the line and breaks our laws, the laws of our land, must be upheld, and I will ensure that they are.”

Pro-Palestine protests were taking place just hours after this 𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘢𝘤𝘬, with one protester outside Downing Street heard shouting: “I don’t give a f*** about the Jewish community right now.”

When asked for a response, Ms Mahmood said: “Those messages are utterly disgraceful. They are fundamentally un-British in nature, as far as I’m concerned.”

She called for Britons to “step back from protesting for at least a few days just to give the Jewish community here a chance to process what has happened and to begin the grieving process.”

“I am very disappointed that some of the organisers haven’t heeded the call to step back,” Ms Mahmood added.

In a recorded message to Jewish people, the Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said: “I know how much fear you will be holding inside of you. I really do… Nobody should have to do that. Nobody.

“And so I promise you that I will do everything in my power to guarantee you the security that you deserve, starting with a more visible police presence, protecting your community.

“I promise you that over the coming days, you will see the other Britain, the Britain of compassion, of decency, of love.”

A spokesman for the Met Police said: “A protest organised by the ‘Global Movement for Gaza UK’ took place in Whitehall [last night].

“Officers imposed Public Order Act conditions on the protest to keep roads open and prevent serious disruption.

“Regrettably, a significant number of those present were intent on breaching the conditions, leading to clashes with officers who moved in to enforce them.

“40 people have been arrested. Six of those arrests were for assaults on police officers while the majority were for breaching conditions
