Fern previously had a gastric bypass

TV favourite Fern Britton has been on a weight-loss journey for a while now, but as she shows off her new figure on Instagram, it’s clear she’s looking better than ever.

In an Instagram post, Fern shared a series of snaps of a cycling trip in Italy. But what really caught fans’ attention was the black, skin-tight cycling outfit she’s wearing, which highlighted how she had lost a whopping five stone.

“A glorious week in Italy with the Bike Buddies! Friendships spanning 20 years,” she captioned the post. “Love you, ladies.”

How did she do it?

In an interview with Woman & Home, Fern previously shared the secret of her success.

“People often wonder when you’ve lost lots of weight whether you’ve done it naturally,” she said. “And I can look at you and say: ‘Yes, I have.”

“I had my shoulder replacement 18 months ago, and two-and-a-half years ago, when I saw the surgeon, he said: ‘I’m going to totally replace your shoulder, I’ll see you in a year.’ I thought, I need to get my life back on track. I need to stop smoking, stop drinking, get eating under control and stop lying in bed feeling sorry for myself.

“So I started the Couch to 5k, took about 80% of the sugar out of my life and started to think about what I was eating, which I had never done before,” she concluded.

Previously, in 2008, Fern had a gastric bypass to help put an end to her yo-yoing weight. This helped take her from a size 22 to a 12. She later shared that the operation continues to have an impact all these years later.

“Although my gastric band is an old one, it still has its powers. Good food finds it hard to get through, but you can still eat chocolate and drink wine,” she said.

Zia Yusuf vows to ‘hold Keir Starmer responsible’ if Nigel Farage is attacked as he tears into ‘vilifying demonisation’ of Reform leader

The Reform UK leader has hit back at Keir Starmer’s attack, declaring the Prime Minister has ‘descended into the gutter’

Zia Yusuf has vowed to hold Sir Keir Starmer “responsible” if anything happens to Nigel Farage, as he hit out at the Prime Minister’s “vilifying demonisation” of him.

Speaking to GB News, Reform’s Head of Doge revealed he has seen “many social media posts” calling for the “explicit assassination” of Mr Farage, following Sir Keir’s address to Labour conference.

 

During his speech on Tuesday, Sir Keir claimed Mr Farage has had nothing “positive” to say about the UK as he “doesn’t like Britain and doesn’t believe in Britain”.

The Prime Minister said: “When was the last time that you heard Nigel Farage say anything positive about Britain’s future? He can’t, he doesn’t like Britain and doesn’t believe in Britain.”

Launching his tirade on the Prime Minister, Mr Yusuf told GB News: “What we’ve seen now over the last 48 hours is a Prime Minister circling the drain, who is lashing out in desperation. We’re seeing things that I’ve not seen in my lifetime in politics.

“It’s quite extraordinary. He is literally the most unpopular Prime Minister in history according to a poll this week, and the majority of his own members want him to be replaced.

He stated: “And he’s responded by embarking on the most unprecedented coordinated campaign of vilification and demonisation of the man whom he knows he cannot beat at the ballot box, Nigel Farage, and frankly, he has embarked on a campaign to incite violence against him.”

Highlighting that Sir Keir is “not the only one” who has called the Reform leader “racist”, Mr Yusuf explained: “It’s not just Keir Starmer who’s used that word racist, it’s not just one errant comment.

“It was 11 cabinet ministers on pretty much the same day who called him racist. The Deputy Prime Minister of this country said that he flirted with the Hitler Youth, i.e. Nazism. We had the Home Secretary say that he was worse than racist.”

Defending the Reform leader, Mr Yusuf told GB News that “no one has had more abuse” than Mr Farage and revealed that he has “had his security decimated” by the authorities.

He fumed: “Whether you agree with Nigel or not, I think it’s an objective fact that no one has taken more abuse in the political realm in this country than him for decades now, and he has just taken it and he’s basically smiled through it. And I felt like I had to share this information today, because the authorities reduced his security by 75 per cent.

“A couple of weeks ago Charlie Kirk was assassinated, the most high-profile political assassination in recent memory, but it’s not an American thing.

“We’ve had MPs in this country, tragically, brutally murdered, and I see the threats against Nigel. I’ve seen people try to attack him.

“This is a Prime Minister who’s not some freewheeling orator, this is someone who chooses his words very carefully.”

Declaring that he will hold Sir Keir “responsible” if Mr Farage’s safety is compromised, Mr Yusuf stated: “Nigel’s a very close friend, someone I’ve worked with every single day now for a sustained period of time. I have seen, personally, the threats against him.

“Just this morning, David Bull has put a screenshot out of someone on X saying that a sniper rifle could stop Nigel.

“I’ve seen so many social media posts, on TikTok and X calling for the explicit assassination of my friend and colleague, Nigel.

“So the Prime Minister doing this with his Cabinet is unprecedented in this country, and I want to be clear too, if something were to happen to Nigel, heaven forbid, god forbid, we will hold the Prime Minister responsible for that.”

Taking aim at Sir Keir further, he concluded: “The coordinated campaign, within 48 hours, pretty much all on the same day, against Nigel, using Hitler, bringing Hitler into this, calling him a Nazi sympathiser, fascist, racist enemy, calling on his supporters, to quote, go into battle against an enemy.

“This is something I have not seen, and people watching this programme can make their own conclusions.

“When was the last time you saw such a coordinated campaign, and that coming a matter of weeks after his security detail was decimated by the authorities?

“I do want to be clear for people watching this, who support Nigel, or even if you don’t support Nigel, but you believe in sensible democracy, right thinking people, thankfully, donors have stepped in.

“Donors have stepped in, and we’ve shored up his security so Nigel is well protected and is safe.”

The wife of a Strictly Come Dancing star has voiced her disapproval over ‘experienced dancers’ participating in the show.

Chris Robshaw, 39, and his professional partner Nadiya Bychkova found themselves near the bottom with a mere 14 points on Saturday’s first live show after performing the Samba.

The former England rugby ace narrowly escaped being at the foot of the leaderboard, with entertainment reporter Ross King earning just 10 points.

However, following the announcement that West End performer Amber Davies, who has previous dance experience, was stepping in for the injured Dani Dyer, Chris’s wife Camilla Kerslake has criticised the decision as ‘unfair’.

Former Love Islander Amber Gill commented on an Instagram post: “Unpopular opinion: I think having people with so much dance experience is unfair.”

Definitely.” However, @lesley_drury argued against the criticism of the show for casting celebrities with past experience, insisting: “It’s never gonna be a level playing field and every contestant knows when they sign up [that] there’s always been people with dance experience.”

Despite the backlash Amber has received alongside Emmerdale actor Lewis Cope, who also has prior dance experience, neither Strictly contestants have Latin or Ballroom training.

Strictly star Oti Mabuse has also defended Amber as the BBC dismissed reports of behind-the-scenes ‘fury’. However, it seems that the competition Chris is up against on the show isn’t his only worry, as he addressed the infamous ‘Strictly curse’ earlier this week.

There are numerous examples of celebrities who were already in relationships finding love with their fellow contestants or professional dance partners, from Joe Sugg and Dianne Buswell to Rachel Riley and Pasha Kovalev.

But Chris views these rumours as the ultimate compliment.

“Surely if people think there’s something going on between us, we must be doing something right,” he quipped to The Sun.

A source told the outlet: ‘She’s worried Patrick seems to be taking longer to adjust.

‘He misses the family unit, and the pressure of work on top of the public split has made it hard for him.

The source added: ‘Cat still cares a lot for him and wants him to be in a good place for the boys and for himself so that does cause her some concern.’

Announcing their separation in July, Cat and Patrick said: ‘We have taken the decision to end our marriage and are now separated. There is no other party involved.

‘We will continue to be united as loving parents to our children and would therefore kindly ask for our family privacy to be respected. There will be no further comment.’

Things took an emotional turn as the hosts paused the show to honour the memory of animal rights campaigner, Dame Jane Goodall, who passed away at the age of 91 on Wednesday (October 1).

The primatologist was in California when she d!ed from “natural causes”. The Jane Goodall Institute said in a statement on Wednesday.

A statement shared to Facebook said: “The Jane Goodall Institute learned this morning, Wednesday 1 October 2025, that Dr Jane Goodall DBE, UN Messenger of Peace and founder of the Jane Goodall Institute, has passed away from natural causes. She was in California as part of her speaking tour in the United States.

“Dr Goodall’s discoveries as an ethologist transformed science, and she was a tireless advocate for the protection and restoration of the natural world.”

Tributes have since poured in for the ethologist, who began researching free-living chimpanzees in Tanzania in 1960, a time when it was unheard of for a woman to venture into the wilds of Africa.

Former US president Barack Obama, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are among those who paid tribute.

Loose Women star Coleen Nolan has opened up on how she really felt when she lost a lot of weight, revealing “the grass isn’t always greener”.

Coleen appeared on Loose Women: Just Between Us podcast with Christine Lampard, when the pair discussed the topic of losing weight.

A viewer had sent in a dilemma revealing she was struggling to lose weight after giving birth. And Coleen offered her own experience of not actually feeling like herself when she lost weight a few years ago.

Back in 2010, Coleen lost around five stone. During this time she was on Dancing On Ice, and also had done a big reunion tour with her sister.

Christine asked her: “You felt like you slightly lost your identity, didn’t you?”

Coleen confirmed: “Oh I massively did. This was for a good fews years. It was sort of Dancing On Ice time. Me and my sister did a big reunion tour. It was the busiest year, 2009 and 2010. I think I lost about five stone in total.

“I went down to a size 10. But I knew as I was doing it that I wouldn’t be able to keep it up. I was making a DVD. And at the time, they would send you out a trainer. I was training for six days a week. They would phone me and ask what I had eaten.”

While Coleen admitted that it “absolutely worked” she confessed that she “lost” who she was in the process, especially when on Loose Women. 

“I lost me. Mainly on Loose Women. I remember people saying to me, even my sister would say: ‘You’re really quiet now on Loose Women,’ which is really unheard of for me.

“But I was quiet. I didn’t know what to talk about anymore. My thing had always been that I was the chubby one on the panel. Or you need to go eat more cake. When you go cold, I eat cake. I’m always hot. So, it was all of that having-a-go-at-me type of humour.”

Coleen went on to admit that as she “couldn’t be self-deprecating anymore” she ultimately didn’t know “how to join a conversation”.

Coleen felt ‘more pressure’

It wasn’t only holding a conversation that became a struggle for Coleen, but she also felt like there were more eyes on her, waiting for her to put the weight back on.

She explained to Christine: “I felt more pressure when I reached size 10. The pressure of everyone looking at me was insane. I felt everyone was looking at me waiting for me to put it back on. Everything I did, I could see people looking.”

However, all of that changed when Coleen spotted one headline in the papers, that made her go and get a burger.

“I got the best headline of my whole life, which I framed. It said: ‘Has Coleen taken it too far?’ I lived for that headline. It was the last and only time I ever had that.

“They had this picture of me walking down the street looking really – I didn’t look skinny – but I looked super slim. I was like ‘Yes!’ So I went and had a burger.”

Christine asked her if she felt more like herself when she started putting weight back on and not training everyday, and Coleen admitted that she did, because she knows who she is.

She said: “I think I know my own. What I have learnt through all the dieting is that there is a certain weight that I reach. Size 10 is unrealistic for me. It was impossible to keep up.”

Dani said: “The doctor said to me, If I continue dancing on this foot, it’s not going to heal, it’s going to get worse and worse and worse. It’s so hard because I was just having the best time of my life.”

 

“I was so happy, I was so excited. The photoshoots, they’re the fun part, but I got my partner, I got Nikita,” she revealed. Dani, 29, fractured her ankle in a rehearsal after the launch show.

She confessed: “We were all just so devastated about it, and I think because everyone was so devastated about it, it made it really hard for me, do you know what I mean?”

Dani added that she couldn’t leave the house because she was so sad and likely to cry. “Everyone around me was pure devastation, and that’s why I couldn’t leave the house, because I knew if someone said to me ‘are you okay Dani’ I’d just cry.

 

“And everyone is so kind and lovely and I could probably stand in the street and cry. But for me mentally, it’s just been really testing my mental health.”

Strictly quick-stepped into a fix row when it replaced crocked Dani Dyer with musicals star Amber Davies. But Amber insists that despite her experience, she’s a novice when it comes to waltzing around a dance floor.

“I feel like I know they will be like, ‘She’s trained’,” she said, pre-empting complaints she has an unfair advantage. “Yes, I did train in musical theatre, however, I am a beginner when it comes to ballroom Latin dancing. So I feel like I will be starting from scratch. I mean, I’ll give it my all.” She pleaded: “Please vote for me. Please, I beg.”

The Love Island star and theatre actress stepped in when Dani was forced off due to a fractured ankle she suffered during rehearsals. She’s faced accusations of being streets ahead of her fellow celebs thanks to her dance experience. It comes after Camilla Kerslake, wife of rugby player Chris Robshaw, hit out at the calibre of celebs this year.

This week it was reported that West End star Amber had previously met with BBC bosses for Strictly but was told she had too much dancing experience. The performing arts college graduate, who has a professional diploma in musical theatre, was drafted in to replace Dani at the last minute and danced with professional Nikita Kuzmin at the weekend.

Speaking on her Call To Stage podcast, Amber recalled the late phone call from her agent about her joining the show. She said: “It’s 9.30, I see him pop up on my phone and I’m like, ‘What the hell is going on?’ And he’s like, ‘Hi, Amber, are you available for a meeting tomorrow at 10 in the morning?’ He said to potentially replace Dani Dyer on Strictly. I said, excuse me? I said, pardon? I said, please repeat that.”

Opening up about a recent wobble about turning 30, Amber, 28, said the show has come at the perfect time. “I just feel like this, the whole Strictly thing, like going into my last year of my 20s doing Strictly Come Dancing would be f**king iconic. I had a full on wobble, and I was like, I was just thinking about of all my 20s and like winning Love Island at 20 years old.”

It’s been a wild couple of weeks for Amber, who last week announced she had landed the part of Elle in Legally Blonde The Musical. “I honestly think I have some amazing angels up there who are pulling all the right strings. I’ve worked my a*** off and I feel like it’s like being rewarded in some way, you know?”

Opening up about her Broadway dreams, Amber says she’s one step closer to achieving it. “My American Visa, we’ve got to update them on that. We are in the process of getting me one. I mean, what’s really good with that is that I can actually then get myself US representation and maybe my freaking Broadway dreams will come true.”

Lorraine Kelly has stripped down to her birthday suit in a glamorous new photoshoot for a very important campaign. On Wednesday (October 1), the 65-year-old Scott shared a snap from her ITV studios covering her chest with nothing but a pair of iced buns. But she wasn’t the only star baring all, with the brunette beauty chuckling away alongside nine other women in the same pose.

The saucy shoot is all for a good cause: The veteran presenter is promoting the new National Check Your Boobs Day, which will take place annually on October 1. The snap was taken by photographer Sally Mais, who is a breast cancer survivor.

Lorraine said the new campaign aims to provide a “crucial reminder” to women to make self-checking a regular monthly habit. It’s estimated that one in seven women in the UK will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime, according to Breast Cancer UK.

The broadcaster declared that this is one of the things she is most proud of throughout her four-decade career. Speaking about the campaign, she gushed: “Every year the campaign just gets bigger and bigger, and I am so proud of the work we’ve done and the lives we’ve helped to save.

“Launching Britain’s first ever National Check Your Boobs Day is a huge step forward and will hopefully be a crucial reminder for everyone to prioritise their breast health. This is something that truly matters to me, and I’m so grateful for all the support we receive from the public and our partners to get this vital message out there.”

Lorraine and the Change+ Check team are asking for an official endorsement from the Prime Minister to establish the day on the national calendar. They aim to provide the public with clear, actionable information on how to carry out self-checks at home and spot early signs of breast cancer. Early detection is crucial for better treatment and saving lives.

The Minister for Public Health and Prevention, Ashley Dalton, said of the campaign: “It’s so incredibly important to check for the signs of breast cancer because we know early diagnosis leads to better outcomes.

“The Change+ Check campaign is a brilliant way for people out and about shopping on their local high street to quickly check themselves as they get changed, knowing the advice is accurate and officially supporting the NHS.”

Change+ Check was founded in 2019 by Lorraine and Helen Addis MBE, producer of the Lorraine show. The campaign aims to destigmatise conversations about breast cancer.

Over the past seven years, more than 100 women and one man have contacted the show to report that they have received a breast cancer diagnosis as a result of seeing the campaign.
