Shepherd, who was nominated for the Best Serial Drama Performance for his role as David Platt, lost out to EastEnders star Steve McFadden, who won the award for his part as Phil Mitchell.

Speaking on his podcast On The Sofa with Colson, Jack and Ben, which he hosts alongside Corrie stars Colson Smith and Ben Price, Shepherd said that he knew he hadn’t won before it was even announced.

Explaining the situation to his co-hosts, Shepherd recalled: “They said my name first and there was no reaction.

“But then the next person was Steve McFadden and everyone goes mental. So everyone who’s nominated, you have cameras [facing you]. And then they went, ‘and the winner is…’.

“All the cameras turned away from me and went to Phil Mitchell. So it was like, there’s obviously not a camera on me, just to give you a clue that I’ve definitely not won this.”

While Shepherd said that some viewers thought he looked upset about not winning his category, the soap star explained that this was not the case.

He said: “My trick of the trade this week is the ‘loser’s face’, when you haven’t won the award, what do you do? Do you graciously clap and go, ‘yep, well done’?

“Do you over-egg the pudding as though you’re pleased they’ve won and you’ve lost? Do you do the really pissed off face? Or the other one, to pretend not to be paying attention and laugh at some joke that someone has not made?

“Usually I do the ‘massively pissed off’ look because it makes me laugh. But this year, because I had no camera on me, I didn’t do anything but they had a little sniper camera.

“So I was in shot and my reaction was ‘I’m just watching the NTAs’. I genuinely wasn’t pissed off.”

“He’s in a lot of pain and probably suffering from a bit of PTSD from the entire thing. But I think he’s looking forward to rebuilding what he had with Charity and his family beforehand.”

Little does Mack know, though, that Charity is currently in turmoil over the paternity of the baby she is carrying for Sarah and Jacob.

Having slept with Ross behind her husband’s back, Charity has no idea whether the little one will take after her ex or Jacob – and given Mack’s rivalry with Ross, we dread to think how Mack would react if he found out the truth!

“Mack doesn’t necessarily have a leg to stand on, because he did do a very similar thing with Chloe a couple of years ago,” admits Lawrence. “I think because it’s Ross it probably is more poignant for him because he doesn’t like him at all.

“Ross nearly killed him three, four months ago, so they’ve never really seen eye-to-eye and a lot of that is because of Moses and the dynamic that holds. It would very, very difficult for him to get over it…”

But for now, Mack’s focus will no doubt be recovering from the unimaginable trauma that the evil John inflicted on him.

“He’ll have both emotional and physical scars,” reveals Lawrence. “He was in the bunker for a fair amount of time!”

Ross Lannon, a radio presenter and disability blogger, appeared on the hit ITV game show back in April 2022, but it took over two years for the episode to finally air.

Writing on his personal blog, A Life On Wheels, Ross admitted he had ‘given up hope’ that his appearance would air, but was keen to finally spill about his time behind the scenes.

Cornwall-based Ross applied as a ‘joke’ and never expected to get a callback, but he was presently surprised when he made it through several rounds of interviews, phone calls and tests.

He described the experience as ‘amazing’ overall, adding: ‘As someone who loves all things media related, I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the studios – especially seeing how everything worked from behind the scenes.’

Ross continued: ‘The show’s producers and runners were all so friendly and welcoming too, which made the whole experience even better.’
