The Apprentice star Thomas Skinner has been paired with Amy Dowden on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing

 

Just hours after the Strictly Come Dancing launch show The Apprentice star Thomas Skinner has gone on the defensive after BBC Look North star Peter Levy expressed his disdain that popular Welsh dancer Amy Dowden had been teamed with the reality star and businessman. Taking to X the news man simply wrote: “I feel sorry for Amy Dowden……”

However, Thomas took umbrage at the post and responded, urging the newsreader to “stick to the autocue.” He furiously penned: “Don’t feel sorry for Amy, Peter. She is an incredible woman, a fighter, and we’re gonna have a great time together on Strictly. In fact, we haven’t stopped laughing. Maybe instead of making daft digs at me, you should be cheering on a brilliant dancer who’s beaten bigger battles that you and I have had to face. Anyway, you stick to reading the autocue, I’ll stick to learning the cha-cha. I will be working my hardest on learning to dance so I don’t let her down. I want to do as well as possible, not just for myself but for her as well.”

Rather than fire back an irate reponse Peter graciously replied: “Hello Thomas, I am sure you are going to do a great job and will be a top partner. I wish you both well in the competition. I’ll stick with the autocue.”

Thomas was thrilled to learn he will be dancing with Amy. The reality star and businessman is currently mired in controversy following revelations of an affair.

The 34-year-old dad of three put the furore to one side to greet his pro partner saying: “I’m over the moon. Honestly, Amy is a legend, just inspirational.”

However, he managed to visibly disgust her as he described his ideal pre-rehearsal breakfast on the launch show and invited her to join him.

He told Amy: “The best breakfast – we go down to Beano’s caff nice and early before we get started, get you spicy Korean noodles with the chicken breasts and the poached eggs, a little bit of Tabasco sauce.

“Or you don’t fancy that we can have the sunshine chicken curry with a round of chips,” he enthused.

However Amy looked far from amused and her reaction was spotted by Claudia who pointed it out. This led Amy to issue a warning to Thomas as she said: “I really hope your food doesn’t repeat whilst you dance. Because we’re so close,” she said putting her face next to his to demonstrate her point.

Amy, 35, only returned to Strictly last year having been forced to sit out 2023 as she battled breast cancer. She was paired with JLS star JB Gill, but her time on the show was cut short after she suffered foot injury in October 2024. She was forced to withdraw from the competition and Lauren Oakley stepped in to partner JB.

Martin Kemp was left in tears over an emotional realisation about his son, Roman. Speaking exclusively with The Mirror, the Spandau Ballet singer confessed that looking through old family memories makes him “tear up.” He is the proud parent of two children: Harley and Roman, with his son following in his parents’ footsteps into a career in showbiz. Martin married Shirlie, who shot to fame in the 1980s as a backing singer for Wham! in 1988. Speaking about his children growing up, he recalled his family memories and said he has plenty of old clips of his kids when they were learning how to walk.

“My kids are now in their thirties, but I’ve got footage of them taking their first steps, and it’s mind-boggling when I watch it back,” he remembered.

“We had a load of old tapes of the kids, and a few Christmases ago, Shirlie bought me a camera that can play them all. I hadn’t seen these tapes in years, so I was watching them back through this little lens on the camera with my eye up against it, crying my eyes out!”

He added: “It brought back so many of the beautiful memories. That’s the power of capturing these moments. It’s something that we mustn’t take for granted. The older you get, the further away you get from memories like that, and you want to bring them closer. You don’t realise how important they are until you’re older.”

In other news, Roman previously admitted he struggles to keep fans updated with his life events on social media platforms because he wants to maintain his privacy, as well as protect his family and friends.

In May, he told the singer Tom Grennan on their You About? podcast: “I’m terrified of doing it because I just think that you’re letting everyone in. I struggle with it because I want people to know me. I’m not horrible, but I also want my private life.

“It’s also for the protection of other people. I think you wouldn’t mind having your life on it but if there are people who are in your life, who aren’t in the public eye, it’s more for them.

“I also don’t want to be sat there thinking, ‘This would be a great Instagram picture.’ I don’t want to live my life like that.”

ogglebox came under fire last night (Friday, September 19) over its coverage of last week’s Unite the Kingdom march.

The march, led by far-right activist Tommy Robinson, saw thousands descend onto the streets of London last Saturday (13th September).

What happened on Gogglebox last night?

Towards the end of last night’s episode of Gogglebox, the cast were shown a news report covering the Unite the Kingdom march in London.

The march, which has been described as the “biggest anti-migration protest in the UK in decades,” saw numerous people arrested, and several police officers injured.

“It just goes to show, people are worried about it and the government has got to sort it, get something sorted,” Jenny Newby said as the news report started.

Meanwhile, Helena Worthington said, “When will people work out that immigrants aren’t the problem?”

“If Tommy Robinson’s involved, it ain’t gonna be peaceful,” Teresa then said.

Clips of protestors clashing with police were shown, leading to Lee Riley remarking, “Well, this hasn’t united the nation. It’s just thuggery.”

“The problem is, this government and the last, they failed to bring people together,” Steve said.

“Country is a powder keg just waiting for a fuse to be lit. People aren’t happy,” Julie Malone said.

“My brain can’t understand tribalism like that,” Helena then said. “You weren’t brought up like that,” her mum added.

Meanwhile, Ellie and Izzy said they were “frightened” of the protestors. “I feel like they’re more likely to be violent towards me as an individual and a woman as a migrant is,” they said.

Meanwhile, Annie told husband Ronnie, “The people I know who went to it are definitely not far-right fascists.”

Sue then added that not all of the 150,000 protestors were “thugs”.

At the end of the show, Tremaine said: “When I was young, that flag said, ‘Don’t come in this pub’, that flag said, ‘Don’t come down this road’, that flag says, ‘I don’t like you’. I grew up in a time when it was used for that and now it’s being used for that again.”

Viewers fume

It’s safe to say that viewers weren’t happy with the segment on the rally.

“#Gogglebox light entertainment show enjoyed by many, why bring politics into it? Very disappointing show last night,” one viewer tweeted.

“Keep out of politics #gogglebox we tune in to be entertained,” another moaned. 

“Can we stop bringing politics on GoggleBox. The topic about immigration should be nowhere near this show,” a third said.

“Gogglebox needs to stay away from politics and the news,” another added.

“Watched #Gogglebox tonight, loved it for YEARS, won’t be watching it again,” a fifth fumed.

However, some viewers weren’t as upset.

“No doubt the people complaining about tonight’s show will be back next week to complain about something else,” one viewer tweeted.

Another viewer tweeted the Gogglebox hashtag with two clapping emojis in a show of support. “The end of #gogglebox hit hard tonight,” another added.

trictly Come Dancing launched on BBC One tonight (September 20), with viewers finally finding out who the Class of 2025 had been paired with.

During tonight’s launch show, hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman also spoke to the judges, interviewed every single celebrity taking part, and even had a bit of a boogie themselves.

But there were complaints that the show – which ran for one hour and 50 minutes – was a lot longer than necessary…

Strictly stars meet their partners tonight

During tonight’s Strictly Come Dancing, the likes of Dani Dyer, La Voix and Ellie Goldstein were partnered up for the 2025 series.

And, as well as interviews with the cast before the partnerships were announced, Claudia also spoke to them afterwards.

Some viewers thought it was nice to get to know the stars, with some relatively unknown to the Strictly audience. Others, however, were quick to brand the show “boring” and urged the BBC to “get on with it”.

“Gawd get on with it,” said one. “Yes we know their partners, no need to interview each person,” they added, clearly having looked at the leaked partnerships list.

“How long can they drag this out,” complained another. “Wish they’d cut out all this chit chat and get dancing. Half an hour and other than the opening dance nothing’s happened. Waste of time the launch show,” said another.

“Tonight’s show is a bit of a struggle. The only way is up as they say,” said another, delivering their verdict on the Strictly launch show.

“This is boring,” said another. “Don’t they actually dance tonight? Been on an hour,” another complained.

What actually happened on Strictly tonight?

The show was full of dancing, though. Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell returned to the show to perform their waltz. There was an epic opening number featuring all the pros, all the judges, Tess and Claude and the Class of 2025.

Jessie J also performed, with the pros dancing as she performed to the Strictly ballroom. At the end of the show, the paired-up couples danced together for the first time.

‘If you don’t like it, don’t tune in till episode two’

However, along with the complaints, others were just thrilled to have the Strictly sparkle back on our screens.

“The news is pretty [bleep]y at the moment but, in the middle of all that #StrictlyComeDancing starts again & beams massive rays of sunshine into our homes. We need more of this stuff, but whatever happens the enthusiasm, talent & sheer goodwill will see us through. Thanks #strictly,” said one fan.

“For everyone saying just get on with the dancing. It’s the launch show. It’s all about them pairing up and having one group dance at the end of the show. This is not new! If you don’t like it, don’t tune in until episode two,” another declared.

Amy’s had a tough couple of years. She was diagnosed with breast cancer and was forced to sit out of the show while she underwent treatment. Then, when she returned, she had to pull out midway through the series due to injury.

Meanwhile, Thomas – who rose to fame on The Apprentice – is arguably this year’s most controversial contestant. He’s a self-confessed Donald Trump fan. He’s been accused of having “flirtations” with Reform UK. And, this past week, admitted cheating on his wife weeks after his wedding. Thomas said it was a one-off. The other woman, meanwhile, maintains that it was a three-month affair.

With her new dance partner surrounded in scandal, Strictly fans have now blasted show producers for pairing Thomas with Amy.

They also predicted they will be the first couple to leave the show.

Amy reveals she’s had ‘the best week with Thomas Skinner’

However, Thomas did have some defenders online. And one viewers pointed out that Amy most likely had a say in who she was partnered with for the 2025 series of Strictly.

“Surely she must have agreed to it,” said one.

“Good on you mate, don’t listen to the hatters, bosh!” declared another.

Thomas posted on Instagram once the news was out and said: “Let me introduce you to an absolute legend, me partner for Strictly Come Dancing. The lovely @amy_dowden. We ain’t stopped laughing since we met, and she is teaching me the moves which you’ll see at the end of the video. Honoured to be doing Strictly and I’ll be posting lots of behind the scenes videos. Honestly never fort I would love dancing as much as I am! Enjoy. Bosh.”

Amy replied and said: “Yes partner. Had the best week! You’ve work hard, we’ve laughed, and fun and you are looking after me too as am I you! Let’s do this partner. X”

Today, it was sadly announced that John had passed away.

Announcing the news, his agent shared details of John’s final days. He said that the star, who had Parkinson’s disease complicated by pneumonia, passed away peacefully in hospital this morning.

“John had Parkinson’s disease which was complicated by pneumonia,” his agent said.

“His son Nick and daughter-in-law Lisa have been constantly at his side and John died peacefully in hospital this morning,” she then added.

Following the news of his death, tributes have poured in for the star.

“So sad to hear that the incredible John Stapleton has died. An amazing mentor and one of the kindest people in TV news. I was so lucky to have worked with him for so long, meeting him on my very first day in TV over 20 years ago. Just a few weeks ago I reunited him with Penny and it was a magical moment. Thank you John for your constant advice, kindness and laughs. You will be sorely missed,” GB News presenter Ben Briscoe wrote.

“Absolutely gutted to hear of the passing of John Stapleton. Growing up he and Lynn made TV News and current affairs seem accessible and when I got to know them a little bit they were so kind and supportive. My heart is with Nick today,” another fan said.

“Ach sad news this morning! Rest in eternal peace Mr. Stapleton,” another wrote.

“RIP John. Condolences to all your family,” a third said.

John’s career and Parkinson’s diagnosis

John enjoyed a long and distinguished career, working for some of the country’s largest broadcasters.

During the 1980s, he worked on BBC shows Panorama and Newsnight, as well as the ITV show TV-am. Between 1980 and 1983, he worked as a correspondent for Panorama and Newsnight, reporting from troubled spots in the world, such as the Middle East and El Salvador. He then went on to work for three months as Newsnight’s correspondent in Argentina during the Falkland War.

Following a stint at Good Morning Britain, he returned to the BBC for Watchdog and Breakfast Time.

In the late 1980s, John also became one of the first presenters to work for Sky News, fronting Newsline.

In 1998, he joined GMTV, before joining Daybreak in 2010. He remained on the show when it transitioned into Good Morning Britain until 2015.

In 2004, he was named the Royal Television Society’s presenter of the year for his work on the Iraq War and for a series of interviews including former prime minister Sir Tony Blair.

Last year, John went public with his Parkinson’s diagnosis.

“I am fairly pragmatic about the prospect of this getting worse. I try to remain positive, because what’s the point of not being?” he said at the time.

Despite this being his tenth series on Strictly, Neil has only had a celebrity partner three times.

Neil Jones left without a partner on Strictly…again

Last year, Neil received just his third partner on Strictly, despite having joined the show back in 2016.

The 43-year-old was paired up with Toyah Willcox; however, their stint on the show didn’t last long. They were eliminated in week three.

Prior to that, Neil had been partnered up with Nina Wadia in 2021. However, they were eliminated first that year.

In 2019, he reached the quarter-finals with Alex Scott.

However, the dancer will not be dancing with a celeb on this year’s series yet again, as revealed during yesterday’s launch show.

He’s not the only one without a celebrity partner this year. Luba Mushtuck, Gorka Marquez, Nancy Xu, and Michelle Tsiakkas are also benched for the 2025 series.

However, they will all be heavily involved each week, taking part in the group pro dances. There is always a possibility they’ll be involved in the Christmas Special later in the year. Neil has been involved in five Christmas specials since 2016.

Viewers send their support to Neil Jones

Some fans were gutted for Neil last night.

“So no Neil or Nancy [sad face],” one fan tweeted.

“Oh. I’ve just realised Neil doesn’t have a Celeb partner again. What a shame..,” another said.

“I am so disappointed that yet again, Neil doesn’t have a celebrity partner. He is such a great dancer and has a fantastic upbeat personality. I really thought that with this being his 10th year on Strictly, they would have given him a partner…he so deserves it,” a third wrote.

“It’s a shame you haven’t got a partner again!” another told Neil on Instagram.

“Gutted that you don’t have a partner! You and Alex Jones I still rewatch your dances to this day! You’re fab! Let’s hope you are a dancer for the Christmas Special?!” a fifth said.

The 15 celebrities finally learned who their dance partners are going to be during last night’s pre-recorded launch show.

Doctor Who star Alex Kingston is dancing with Johannes Radebe, EastEnders actor Balvinder Sopal is with Julian Caillon, and Chris Robshaw will be boogying with Nadiya Bychkova.

Dani Dyer has been partnered up with Nikita Kuzmin, Ellie Goldstein is with Vito Coppola, and George Clarke is with newbie Alexis Warr.

Harry Aikines-Aryeetey AKA Nitro is with Karen Hauer, former football star Jimmy Floyd-Hasselbaink is dancing with Lauren Oakley, and Karen Carney is with Carlos Gu.

Drag Race star La Voix is with Aljaz Skorjanec, Emmerdale’s Lewis Cope is dancing with Katya Jones, and Ross King is paired up with former champ Jowita Przystal.

Stefan Dennis is with fellow Australian Dianne Buswell, Thomas Skinner is with Welsh star Amy Dowden, and Vicky Pattison is with Kai Widdrington.

The final CCTV footage of Jay Slater, captured just hours before his tragic d3ath, is set to be aired in a new Channel 4 documentary.

The film aims to dispel the mystery surrounding his d3ath and quash the numerous social media theories and claims that have arisen since his disappearance.

Jay, a 19 year old from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, vanished on 17 June 2024, sparking a massive search operation. His body was discovered in a remote area near the village of Masca in Tenerife on 15 July.

His disappearance in the summer of 2024 ignited a flurry of online speculation, with conspiracy theories spreading like wildfire across social media platforms. The case attracted global attention, with over 30 million videos posted online speculating about Jay’s whereabouts.

Channel 4’s new documentary features the last known CCTV footage of Jay, along with messages he sent on the night of his disappearance, reports the Mirror.

 

At 11.55pm, Jay is seen at Papagayo Nightclub, and then there is CCTV footage of him leaving at 01.04am.

At 1.12am, he is denied re-entry into the club and can be seen at the entrance. A doorman appears to be pointing into the distance, seemingly showing Jay something.

At 2.40am, he sends a message to his friends saying: “Can’t get in Papagayo they got marker on me”.

His friend Lucy responds at 2.48am, saying: “I’ve just said I’ll come out and get you if you come home.”

Then at 2.49am, Jay replies: “Doesn’t matter it’s OK. I on a mission.”

He is then spotted on CCTV at Tramps Nightclub at 3.07am. This is the last known sighting of Jay.

It is believed that he left this club and tragically died later that morning.

According to a coroner’s report in July, Jay informed his mates he was “in the middle of the mountains” and in need of a drink, as he embarked on a 14-hour trek home the morning after indulging in drugs and alcohol during a night out.

The Disappearance of Jay Slater also features never-before-seen CCTV footage, previously unheard audio, the discovery of unsent messages, and access to the Slater family as they seek answers about what transpired with Jay.

It was the only media outlet granted full access to Jay’s post-mortem, Jay’s funeral and Jay’s inquest. The film delves into the true impact of social media sleuthing – on police investigations as well as the damaging effect on the family and loved ones mourning the loss of their son.

Jay Slater sent a haunting final message to his friend, which was only delivered following his tragic d3ath. The 19-year-old went missing while on holiday in Tenerife last year after attending a music festival with his pals.

A vast search was carried out in an effort to find Jay after he was reported missing on June 17, 2024. Sadly, Jay’s body was found in a remote area near the village of Masca on 15 July.

The search for Jay revealed he had vanished after being driven about 22 miles into the mountains to an Airbnb with two men he had met on the holiday. He fell around 80ft to his d3ath in a treacherous ravine while trying to walk back to his accommodation in Los Cristianos.

Within hours of Jay’s disappearance, mass online interest set conspiracy theories flying, causing a social media storm led by true-crime keyboard detectives. The case became the focus of global attention, with over 30 million videos online speculating about Jay’s whereabouts.

Now, a new documentary is set to detail his family’s hunt for answers and is the first time they have spoken publicly about the tragic case. During one moment, Jay’s mum Debbie Duncan recalled finding an unsent message when she logged onto her son’s Snapchat account.

After finally receiving Jay’s phone, Debbie found a devastating unsent message to his friend. She said: “When we signed into Jay’s Snapchat there was an unsent message from Jay to Brad [Geohegan].

“So the message was obviously just flying around and then the message sent to Brad, which obviously gave Brad a fright. He messaged me straight away ‘are you on Jay’s phone?’. I said yeah we’ve just signed into his Snapchat.

“He said ‘I’ve just got a message that’s just come through from Jay’. The last message he sent. He said ‘listen, I’m not going to make it’. It’s kind of like he knew he just wasn’t going to make it.”

Jay’s phone is believed to have ran out of charge when his call to friend Lucy Law ended at 8:50am. The documentary plays the desperate ‘999 call’ she made to Spanish police where she tells them: “Jay said he is going to die up there”.

Lucy had known Jay for about six years and was the last person to speak to him on the phone. On the call to Spanish police, Lucy tells them: “My friend he’s met some people, and they’ve drove him up into the mountains. I don’t know why and he’s left the house,

“And I don’t know if something happened, and I was telling him, you need to go back to your friends and tell them to drive you back down.

“And he said ‘No, I can’t. I can’t’. But I don’t know why that was.” The police then asked for the friend’s name and Lucy tells them it is Jay Slater.

The police ask if her friend has asked to be rescued and she added: “Yes, said he feels like he’s going to die up there. And then the phone cut off.” The audio from the call with the police has never been heard before and sheds new light on the events of June 17.

Sources suggest that the extravagant getaways and costly gifts are failing to provide the necessary spark to revitalise their relationship, with Eamonn now allegedly dedicating more time in Belfast alongside his family – minus Katie.

Eamonn has been battling chronic back pain following his spinal injury in 2022 and now depends upon an electric wheelchair for mobility, reports the Mirror.

The veteran broadcaster was married to Ruth Langsford when his injury occurred, but the couple called time on their 14-year marriage last year.

Shortly afterwards, it emerged that he had developed a strong connection with Katie, who is employed as a counsellor. Recent reports in the Daily Mail suggest that Eamonn is more irritable than previously.

The insider revealed: “Let’s just say the honeymoon period looks like it is very much at its end.”

They revealed: “He’s grumpier than ever and his health problems [he has chronic back pain] really aren’t helping but, instead of moving closer to Katie and settling, he’s spending more time with his family in Belfast, often without her. The lavish gifts and the swanky holidays don’t seem to have made him any happier.”

According to the publication, his colleagues at GB News share the same sentiment. One remarked that “he’s a miserable goat even on a good day.”

They continued: “He goes into GB News in the morning, and he moans and moans. It seems to be fizzling out for him. He is very low – the only thing that cheers him is going to work, he loves working.”

To add to the woes, reports suggest that his son Jack, whom he shares with Ruth, has sided with his mother since their public separation, as has the youngest son from his first marriage.
