As the build-up continues to ramp up, the game’s finer details start to be confirmed.
The Philadelphia Eagles were designated with home team advantage, which meant first-pick of uniform color.
They decided to don their Midnight Green home strip.
Therefore, the Kansas City Chiefs will wear their white away jersey for the game on Sunday, February 9.
The kit clash is the exact same uniforms the pair wore for Super Bowl LVII.
Why do the Eagles get first pick?
The Eagles are designated as the home team as the Super Bowl is played on neutral grounds.
The choice switches on a yearly basis between the AFC and NFC champions. This year, that’s the Eagles.
Why can’t Eagles can’t wear their iconic Kelly Green uniforms?
Those of an Eagles persuasion may have been disheartened to learn their team decided to chose against the beloved the Kelly Green jerseys for the Midnight Green.
The Kelly Green had been a staple for more than 60 years in the 1990s before the team retired it for the new-look color.
Eventually, the Kelly Green colorway returned as an alternate strip in 2023.
The franchise have gone have gone 4-0 in them since bringing it back.
However, they will not be wearing them in the Super Bowl as the league’s strict uniform policy forbids anything other than Primary Jersey color.
Is there a Super Bowl jersey curse?
Apparently so – and it could be bad news for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Teams wearing white are an incredible 16-4 in the past 20 Super Bowls and 37-21 (64%) overall.
That gives the advantage to the Chiefs – who have also been a team to buck the white trend in recent years when they wore red to win the 2020 and 2024 edition.
The Chiefs have also worn white twice in Super Bowls.
Ominously, however, they beat the Philadelphia Eagles wearing white when the teams met in 2023.
They lost wearing white against Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021.
