BREAKING: GMB star leaves ITV for RIVAL channel in Heartbreaking Announcement

Good Morning Britain presenter Will Godley has quit the ITV breakfast show after four years – revealing he is moving to GB News in September. The TV reporter and producer made the announcement on Friday (August 29), confirming he was leaving the programme that made him a familiar face with viewers across the country. Sharing the news online, Will said: “Thrilled to be starting as a National Reporter at GB News in September.

“That means I’m sadly saying goodbye to GMB after four wonderful years. A huge thanks to the brilliant team, who even made the nightshifts amazing. Really excited to get stuck in at GB News.” During his time on the programme, Will became a regular fixture, reporting from across the UK on breaking stories and features. His career has also included stints with Sky News Australia, BBC 5Live and CNN International. The departure comes at a turbulent time for ITV’s daytime division.

As The Sun revealed earlier this year, Good Morning Britain is shutting down its US office entirely as part of sweeping cost-cutting measures.

For the first time in the show’s 11-year run, the flagship breakfast slot will no longer have a dedicated team Stateside.

Instead, coverage of American stories will fall to ITN’s main news hub, while GMB’s only on-the-ground presence will remain Noel Phillips, who is based in New York.

The cuts have sparked anger behind the scenes. One source said: “They have completely axed their American operation, with the intensity of the news cycle in the US as it is – especially now, with a president who is making headlines daily.

“How does that make any sense? These cuts are a disaster in the making. The way they have gone about all of this is messy and it is devastating for us all.”

The insider went further, branding the move “a brazen pivot away from journalism,” and warned that ITV risked alienating loyal viewers.

They added: “Why are they trying to reinvent the ‘news’ instead of finding better ways to reach audiences? It is a shame they are being so shortsighted and are losing genuine, good quality people.”

An ITV spokeswoman attempted to calm fears, saying: “ITV is currently in consultation over proposed changes and no final decisions have been made on redundancies.

“ITV News has a significant presence across North America and its award-winning bureau will continue to provide GMB viewers with trusted international news.”

The broadcaster is cutting 220 jobs across its daytime slate, including Lorraine, Loose Women and This Morning, in a bid to save £50 million.

As part of the changes, Lorraine will be slashed to a 30-minute slot while Loose Women and Lorraine will only air 30 weeks a year. GMB itself will be extended by half an hour.

For viewers, the changes mean big shake-ups ahead – and the loss of one of the show’s most familiar faces.
