King Charles and Queen Camilla set for Italy trip amid their 20th wedding anniversary

This trip will mark King Charles’ 18th official visit to Italy

King Charles and Queen Camilla are set to embark on a state visit to Italy in April, where they will meet Pope Francis and key Italian leaders.

The visit also includes engagements in Rome and the ancient city of Ravenna. It is expected to coincide with their 20th wedding anniversary on April 9.

To mark the occasion and celebrate their upcoming visit, the royal couple will host a special Italian-inspired dinner at Highgrove House on Friday, with Hollywood actor Stanley Tucci as the guest of honour.

King Charles and Queen Camilla will host formal Italian dinner

Ahead of their official trip to Italy, King Charles, 76, and Queen Camilla, 77, will bring a touch of Italy to Gloucestershire.

The couple are hosting a formal dinner at Highgrove featuring Italian cuisine, culture, and entertainment.

The event will feature Hollywood actor and food connoisseur Stanley Tucci, who will deliver a speech.

Tucci is best known for presenting Searching for Italy, a BBC series celebrating Italian cuisine.

He will also be joined by Italian ambassador to the UK Inigo Lambertini, renowned chef Francesco Mazzei and master mixologist Alessandro Palazzi.

Tucci, an American of Italian descent, is well known for his love of Italian cuisine and culture.

He has also spoken openly about his battle with throat cancer, which temporarily affected his ability to taste – a poignant connection to King Charles’ own ongoing cancer treatment.

Charles and Camilla’s Italy trip

This new royal trip will mark King Charles’ 18th official visit to Italy.

During their time in Italy, Charles and Camilla will meet with Pope Francis at the Vatican, talk to senior Italian government officials, and visit cultural and historic sites.

The royal visit also coincides with the Catholic Church’s “Jubilee Year 2025”. This sacred event is held every 25 years and encourages renewal, pilgrimage, and spiritual reflection.

Buckingham Palace has confirmed that King Charles and Queen Camilla will take part in the celebrations as “Pilgrims of Hope”.

They will follow in the footsteps of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, who attended the last Jubilee in 2000.

Charles and Camilla’s 20th wedding anniversary

The king previously met Pope Francis in 2019. However, this will be the first time they meet since Charles became monarch.

The trip is also particularly special for the couple, as it falls on their 20th wedding anniversary.

Their 2005 wedding was originally scheduled for April 8. Unfortunately, it was postponed due to the death of Pope John Paul II. Instead, Charles travelled to Rome for the Pope’s funeral, delaying his nuptials to April 9.

Now, two decades later, their return to Italy serves as a full-circle moment.
