Prince William Holds Crucial Palace Meeting As Harry’s Major Plan Raises Fresh Questions
Prince William has reportedly held private talks at Kensington Palace as speculation grows over how he and Prince Harry will mark the 30th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death.
Royal commentator Richard Eden claimed the Prince of Wales met the BBC’s new Director-General, Matt Brittin, at Kensington Palace on Saturday.
The reported meeting comes as Harry is said to be considering several projects connected to his late mother, including the possibility of a film.
However, no project involving either brother has been formally confirmed.
Harry Considering ‘A Number of Possible Projects’
Earlier this week, The Telegraph reported that Harry had discussed several possible ways to honour Diana when the 30th anniversary of her death is marked next year.
A source told the publication: “The Duke has discussed a number of possible projects to mark the 30th anniversary of his mother Diana, Princess of Wales’s passing.”
But the source stressed that plans remain undecided.
“Nothing has been finalised or confirmed, and he is still considering the most meaningful way to honour her legacy during this important anniversary year,” they said.
That leaves open the possibility of a documentary or film, but does not confirm one has been commissioned.
Diana died aged 36 in 1997 following a car crash in Paris.
William Holds Private BBC Meeting
Amid the growing speculation, Eden claimed William had held a private meeting with Brittin at Kensington Palace.
“Yesterday, I disclosed that the Prince of Wales was considering appearing in a television documentary to mark the 30th anniversary of his late mother Princess Diana’s death,” Eden wrote.
“Now, I learn that Prince William held private talks at Kensington Palace yesterday with the new Director-General of the BBC, Matt Brittin.”
The source does not establish what was discussed during the meeting, and there has been no public confirmation that it was connected to a Diana documentary.
Nevertheless, the timing has inevitably fuelled speculation about whether William is considering some form of television tribute.
Brothers Previously Appeared Together
William and Harry have marked major anniversaries of Diana’s death together before.
In 2017, for the 20th anniversary, the brothers both appeared in the BBC documentary Diana, Our Mother: Her Life And Legacy.
The programme featured personal memories of their mother and reflections on her influence.
A similar joint appearance appears far less likely now because of the brothers’ strained relationship.
Eden argued that the pair would not repeat their previous collaboration, saying: “That won’t happen again given the brothers’ estrangement.”
Netflix Speculation Surrounds Harry
Eden went further by claiming Harry could pursue his own programme, potentially with Netflix.
“Harry is planning to make his own programme, probably for US streaming giant Netflix,” he wrote.
That claim goes beyond the more cautious account attributed to Harry’s camp, which states only that several possible projects have been discussed and that nothing has been finalised.
Netflix has an existing relationship with Harry and Meghan, making it an obvious source of speculation, but the supplied report does not confirm that the streaming platform has agreed to produce a Diana project.
Different Paths to Honour Diana
The anniversary is likely to place renewed attention on how both William and Harry choose to remember their mother.
Harry is said to be exploring several options, while William’s reported meeting with the BBC has raised questions about whether he may also participate in a television project.
