Sue Cleaver has opened up in a rare confession about motherhood, admitting she has faced “constant worry” while raising her son, who this week celebrated a major milestone birthday. The Loose Women star reflected on the journey of parenthood as her son turned 30, telling fans on Instagram: “30 years ago, I thought I was just having a baby. But I didn’t realise that would be 30 years of love, excruciatingly deep love and constant worry.”
The former Coronation Street actress posted a photo of her son alongside a video where she marvelled at how quickly the decades have flown by. Despite the ups and downs, Sue insisted: “All that worry has been worth it” and admitted she feels “blessed” to have spent a lifetime with him — even if he comes with “annoying tendencies.” Speaking directly to her followers, Sue added: “But it’s all been worth it because my boy is 30 today. And I’ve been blessed to have a lifetime of ‘What’s for dinner, mum?’.

“I’ve been blessed to have a lifetime of him leaving every single cupboard door open and every single light on in the house. So, it’s been an honour.”
She ended her video with a wry question to fellow mothers: “So, to all mums out there: How the hell did we keep these humans alive when I don’t even feel like a grown-up myself?”
In the caption, Sue encouraged other parents to share their own frustrations, asking: “What do your children do that drives you mad but secretly makes you smile?”
Away from her role as a mum, Sue’s own family story has also been extraordinary. Raised by adoptive parents Fred and John Cleaver, she only discovered her birth mother later in life.
Speaking on Good Morning Britain last year, she revealed how fellow actor Michael C. Harbour had told her she was the “double of his wife” — who turned out to be Sue’s biological mother, Lesley.
Lesley had given birth to Sue as a 17-year-old single mother in 1963 and placed her for adoption. The actress was raised by her adoptive parents alongside her brother Paul, but in her twenties she reunited with Lesley and discovered she had two half-sisters.
Recalling their first meeting, Sue admitted: “It was almost like a love story. The first two weeks were very heady; we had to be around each other, we had to call each other. She never ever felt like my mum. My Mum who brought me up is [my] mum. But there was a definite attachment.”
Sue added that her wider family had embraced the reunion: “I’ve got two lovely half-sisters. I’m close to them and I see Kate, the youngest one, quite a bit.
“My Mum and Dad were so welcoming; Lesley came to my father’s funeral. It’s very much like [we’re] part of a bigger family; it’s been lovely.”
