Fans will be thrilled over the Doc Martin star’s return.

Martin Clunes, the star of Doc Martin, is set to guest-host the final episode of the current 70th series of Have I Got News For You!

The actor will be making his 22nd appearance on the beloved BBC programme, and his 17th as a guest host.

Episode 10 of the 70th series will be available from 9pm on Friday, December 12, on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Comedian Phil Wang will also make an appearance as a guest panellist, marking his 15th time on the show.

Regular team captains Paul Merton and Ian Hislop will round up the week’s biggest talking points, offering their comedic political commentary as they go head-to-head, reports Wales Online.

This latest move by Martin comes after it was announced that he would be returning to the remake of Doc Martin, titled Best Medicine.

He will make a guest appearance in Best Medicine, a new medical drama inspired by his original series, Doc Martin.

The much-loved ITV show ran for 10 seasons over 18 years, from 2004 to 2022, and earned Martin numerous awards.

Best Medicine follows Martin Best (Josh Charles), a doctor who relocates from Boston to a small, quirky village on the East Coast.

While Martin won’t be appearing as the lead, he has been cast as Martin’s on-screen father, Dr Robert Best.

The TV series Doc Martin concluded in December 2022 with a final Christmas special, marking the end of its 10-season run.

The finale saw Martin decide to stay in Portwenn with his family instead of taking a new job in London.

During a Good Morning Britain interview earlier this year, the cherished star, renowned for playing Dr Martin Ellingham, left viewers disappointed with an update about the programme.

Charlotte Hawkins questioned the Men Behaving Badly actor: “Talking about things coming back, everyone’s obviously been a huge fan of Doc Martin, is there any chance that it might come back?”

“I’m almost at the age where a GP has to retire, do you see?” Martin openly revealed. “18 years in private medicine.”

“Yeah, but we could have Doc Martin [in] the retirement years?” Charlotte suggested, prompting Martin to quip: “Old Doc Martin. What about the prequel? Young Doc, baby Doc Martin.”
