Jesy Nelson marked her first Mother’s Day since becoming a parent with a heartfelt tribute to mothers everywhere, whilst acknowledging the emotional weight the occasion carries for many.
The former Little Mix singer, 34, shared a black and white photograph on Instagram showing herself seated among a group of women at what she described as a special gathering.
“Happy Mother’s Day to all the super human amazing mumas out there,” Ms Nelson wrote. “For anyone who finds today difficult, my heart goes out to you.”
She revealed the event brought together mothers raising children with additional needs, describing the experience as profoundly moving.

“It was so incredibly special hearing their stories and learning about their amazing children who have had to overcome so much in their life,” she added.
Ms Nelson welcomed her twin daughters, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe Nelson-Foster, with ex fiancé Zion Foster following a complicated pregnancy. The babies arrived prematurely at 31 weeks in May 2025.
In recent weeks, the singer revealed both infants had received a devastating diagnosis of Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1, a rare genetic neuromuscular condition.
The disease progressively weakens muscles by affecting motor nerve cells in the spinal cord, with Type 1 representing the most severe form.
“We were told that they’re probably never gonna be able to walk, they probably will never regain their neck strength so they will be disabled,” Ms Nelson shared in an emotional Instagram update.
Without medical intervention, life expectancy for children with this condition is typically less than two years, though advances in treatment have improved survival rates.
Ms Nelson has continued sharing updates on her daughters’ progress through social media.
In one recent video, she attempted to coax Story Monroe into saying her first word, gently stroking her baby’s head whilst asking “Story, say Mumma. Can you say Mumma?” The singer added a caption reading “Yeah not happening!” alongside a laughing emoji.

Another clip showed Ms Nelson practising leg movement exercises with the twins, encouraging them as “little ballerinas.”
However, the arrival of specialised feeding chairs proved emotionally overwhelming for the new mother.
Due to the progressive muscle weakness caused by SMA1, both Ocean and Story require feeding tubes and specially designed seating for postural support.
“I couldn’t help but burst into tears yesterday when I saw them,” Ms Nelson wrote. “It’s just another reminder of another obstacle we have to tackle.”

Jesy Nelson frequently updates fans on her twin babies
| INSTAGRAMBeyond caring for her daughters, Ms Nelson has thrown herself into campaigning for expanded NHS newborn screening.
She is pushing for Spinal Muscular Atrophy to be included in the standard heel prick test, arguing that earlier diagnosis and treatment could have preserved her twins’ leg function. The test costs approximately £1.
Her petition calling on the government to fund and expedite the process has surpassed 100,000 signatures, meaning Parliament must now consider it for debate.
The advocacy work has come at a cost to her professional life. Speaking on Heart FM’s Breakfast show, Nelson confirmed she has shelved her music career indefinitely.
“My girls are my main focus,” she told Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston. “I’ve not got time, I really don’t.”
