Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid continues to blame himself for the Super Bowl defeat that his side suffered at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Chiefs were on the cusp of history as a victory would have made them the first ever team to win three Super Bowls in a row, but it was not to be as the Eagles stole the show and won 40-22.

The Chiefs were almost never in the contest thanks to the fast start from the Eagles, and fans were perplexed at how little of an impact star quarterback Patrick Mahomes was able to have for his team.

Many people have been quick to blame Reid for the defeat, and ESPN media personality Stephen A. Smith was one of them.

“There is no excuse for a man known for being a damn good playcaller,” Smith said.

“This is all-time (bad). Your quarterback, who is considered one of the top two quarterbacks in the history of the game, had a QBR of 1. I don’t care how bad Patrick Mahomes is, he ain’t that damn bad.

“On his worst day, he could be better than that. There were contributions, from someone else on Kansas City, to contribute to that performance. And it’s Andy Reid. This is going to stick with him for a long time.”

Reid also blames himself

These comments will not bother Reid, who was quick to blame himself after the Super Bowl for what had happened.

“Compliment to our fans and all the support they’ve given us,” Reid said after Super Bowl 59. “Today was a rough day, didn’t really play well in any of the phases, didn’t coach good enough. They did a nice job.

“I’m proud of our guys though, the battle and the fight they put in throughout the year, all the games that they played here over the last few years,” he said. “My hat goes off to the guys for that.”
