Donald Trump loves King Charles but Commonwealth remark angers Americans

Donald Trump is a big fan of the royal family – and in particular King Charles – but his recent comments about the USA joining the ‘Commonwealth of Nations’ has rubbed Americans the wrong way.
The President of the United States offered his take on reports His Majesty could extend the offer of ‘associate membership’ to our neighbours across the pond.
While experts have weighed in to say Prince William is Britain’s ‘secret weapon’ when it comes to Trump, it seems Charles is not far behind.

King Charles and the Commonwealth
The president reacted to reports King Charles is considering extending the offer to Donald Trump during his next planned state visit. The king invited Trump to head back to the UK on an official visit, similarly to how the royals hosted the former TV star during his first term in the Oval Office.
A source at the Royal Commonwealth Society has claimed the idea of America making entry into the Commonwealth is “being discussed at the highest levels”. It’s believed it would symbolise a close relationship between the two nations.
The staff member added: “Donald Trump loves Britain and has great respect for the Royal Family, so we believe he would see the benefits of this.”
They continued it would also push the Commonwealth into a global organisation.

Donald Trump ‘loves’ King Charles
Donald Trump has shared his love for the royals over the years, in particular the late Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles.
However, he isn’t fond of Meghan Markle and their reported feud has lasted several years. He recently slammed the Duchess when he vowed to not deport Prince Harry over his visa woes.
The 78-year-old took to his own social media platform, Truth Social, over the weekend.
He wrote: “I love King Charles,” while sharing an article stating His Majesty could extend the offer to the States.
He added: “Sounds good to me!”
Americans fuming
But following Trump’s remarks about King Charles’ rumoured offer, some Americans are livid at Donald’s suggestion.
Radio host and conspiracy theorist, Alex Jones, has been sharing videos reacting to the news, claiming a civil war would erupt if it meant King Charles was the head of the US government. His videos have received thousands of views and hundreds of comments.
But fans aren’t convinced: “Not gonna happen. This is Trump’s America, he would never hand anything American over to king Charles.”
Another pointed out: “This is nonsense. Even if the U.S. did join the Commonwealth the King would not be the head of state. There are currently over 30 Commonwealth countries where the British monarch is NOT the head of state.”
While King Charles is also Head of the Commonwealth, it’s more of a symbolic role. Charles’ position helps link the 56 independent countries part of the association, but he does not have any constitutional power or authority in any of the member states.
Some of the countries part of the Commonwealth include Australia, Bahamas, Canada, Jamaica, Nw Zealand and Belize.
