Friends of Katie Price have taken a swipe at Alex Reid following the former MMA fighter releasing a bombshell video of his ex-wife.

Loved ones of the mum-of-five are said to have alleged Alex “injecting himself with Harvey’s drugs” during his marriage to Katie – something Alex has previously claimed was accidental.

The claim follows Alex releasing footage of his ex-wife waving a wad of cash while bankrupt on social media earlier this week. Alex, 50, who parted ways from Katie, 47, in 2011 after tying the knot the previous year, said that “the truth will now be heard”. His choice to share the video is said to have caught his former wife off guard, who has faced bankruptcy twice.

Katie – who owes Alex a total of £250,000 after being found guilty of showing friends a sexually explicit tape of her ex to a live audience – is said to have reacted calmly to the bombshell video and is “biding her time”.

But speaking out in her defence, those close to the star have accused Alex of previously using medication prescribed to Harvey Price, Katie’s son with footballer Dwight Yorke.

Speaking to The Sun about Alex’s video, an insider claims: “Katie has told her friends that does not feel the need to respond to a man who was injecting himself with Harvey’s drugs when they were together.” The Mirror has approached representatives for Alex for comment.

In 2013, Alex admitted he once injected his former stepson’s growth hormones, mistakenly thinking they had been his own. He told NOW: “It was an error on my part that I didn’t check the label properly. I never expected Kate to place Harvey’s meds next to mine. On the face of it, they both looked identical.”

It’s claimed that Katie was “blindsided” by the release of the footage recently but won’t be “coming out all guns blazing” against Alex. It’s alleged that the former glamour model is instead “biding her time” and has sought legal counsel.

The remarks follow the emergence of the footage. In it, Katie is seen relaxing on a sofa as she was “enjoying counting” the stack of cash in front of her, with her saying: “There’s loads here … I’m just sorting it out.”

Katie, who has faced bankruptcy twice over debts exceeding £3m, was questioned by daughter Princess Andre about whether she would contribute towards her school fees and those of her other child with former husband Peter Andre.

Before raising her middle finger, Katie replied: “Your dad can sit on that.” She went on: “Does he go on about it a lot? Well it’s tough because I’m in bankruptcy to next May now.” She also mentions a property – “my London flat” – which supporters believe is the home given to Peter as part of their divorce agreement.

The Mirror understands that the one minute and 38 second clip, thought to have been recorded in late 2020, has been forwarded to Katie’s bankruptcy trustee who continues to “seek realisations from various third parties”.

The material was released this week by Alex. Alongside the leaked clip, he said in a statement: “Over the years you have seen countless stories by Katie Price directed at me, Peter, Keiran and others. Today I want to be clear. I am spearheading a campaign to expose the truth. This isn’t about gossip but about evidence. It’s not about rumour, it’s about reality. After years of silence, the time has finally come to reveal all.”

Following the video’s release, Katie issued a statement through her representative, clarifying that the money shown in the footage wasn’t hers. The spokesperson for Katie stated: “This is a video that was shared with Katie’s Trustee in Bankruptcy several months ago and Katie has fully complied with the Trustee’s investigations into the same.”

They further added: “The cash featured did not belong to Katie and the property referred to was dealt with in the financial settlement proceedings arising out of Katie’s divorce from Peter Andre. Katie’s Trustee in Bankruptcy is aware of the property and has undoubtedly investigated whether the same ought to be comprised in the bankruptcy estate.”

Katie has been declared bankrupt twice, first in 2019 due to debts amounting to £3.5m, including £970,639 owed to HMRC, and then again last March over an additional unpaid HMRC demand of £761,994 for earnings made while she was already bankrupt. Among the creditors is Alex Reid who, as reported at the time, won a judgement against Katie in 2019 for “distributing private information – some of it of a sexual nature”, which he claimed infringed his privacy rights.
