Richard Madeley has shared an update on his health after missing two days of Good Morning Britain, revealing that he still feels “washed out”. The TV presenter was replaced by Paul Brand earlier this week on the ITV show after catching covid.
After missing two days at GMB, Richard returned today to host alongside colleague Susanna Reid. Susanna asked him this morning: “By the way, I haven’t said welcome back – and how are you feeling?””
Richard responded: “I’m clear of it. I had Covid, as you know. The active stage has gone now and I’m okay again but it does leave you washed out.

“I feel like I’m operating at 80% this morning so I hope it doesn’t show.”
It was announced on Monday that Richard had pulled out of hosting GMB last minute due to falling ill. “Welcome to the programme, Richard Madeley, due to be on air this morning, a little bit poorly,” she said at the start of Monday’s programme.
“So get well soon Richard, watching from home as Paul Brand takes the hot seat.” ITV News’ UK Editor Paul added: “Get well soon, Richard, and come and help me out!
“I don’t know what I’m doing, and I’ve never sat next to you before either, so this is fresh territory for me.” Susanna added: “What fresh hell is this, you thought this morning, when you got the call.”
Paul continued: “It’s been very nice this morning, you gave me a hug when you arrived,” while Susanna quipped: “Not everyone gets a hug on this programme… former presenters included.”

Paul took to Instagram yesterday to speak about filling in once again, writing: “Good morning! @susannareid100 allowed me back. 6-9am @GMB and plenty to discuss as PM says he’ll lead Labour into the next election (might not be his choice) and the Home Secretary receives criticism/praise from unexpected quarters for her sweary immigration speech.”
Many fans took to social media to praise Paul as a stand-in, describing him as a “breath of fresh air”. One viewer wrote: “Paul Brand should be a permanent presenter a joy to watch.”
Another said: “@PaulBrandITV so refreshing to see you on @gmb today. You don’t interrupt or rude to your colleagues and guests. @itvnews @itn can we have more of Paul and less of @richardm56 present gmb @ITNProductions #gmb.”
