Carol Kirkwood has shared a heartbreaking baby admission but declared “just look at the life I’ve had”. In a candid revelation that emerged during an interview a few months after the release of her fifth novel, Meet Me at Sunset, the weather presenter, known for her role on BBC Breakfast, touched on the subject of family.

Carol, who was one of eight kids, doesn’t have children herself, but she previously disclosed that she’s wanted to be a mum ever since she was a child, having “tried everything” but sadly, it “just never happened”.

She’s now shared a further poignant detail about this time in her life, tragically admitting that her doctors never told them “why”. However, she also pointed to the “life I’ve had” and highlighted one upside.

Carol, who according to Candis Magazine “would have loved” a family, said: “Nor did the doctors ever tell us why.” Despite this, Carol decided not to feel dispirited and pointed to one advantage.

She added: “Well, just look at the life I’ve had. I couldn’t have achieved half of it if I’d had children at home.”

Speaking to Yours Magazine in 2022, Carol shared a similar sentiment about her impressive achievements, noting that “none of that would have been possible” if she’d had children to care for at home.

Her career with the broadcaster started at BBC Scotland before switching to radio. She would marry property developer Jimmy Kirkwood and take a break from the BBC to work in recruitment.

She returned to the BBC more than three decades ago when she joined as a freelancer in 1993. She would then become a regular fixture on The One Show and BBC Breakfast as a weather presenter.

Sadly, Carol and Jimmy divorced in 2008 after 18 years of marriage. She would go on to tie the knot with her second husband, police officer Steve Randall, in 2021, but has previously noted how she had to keep her “sunny” persona on camera.

Speaking to Yours magazine, she said: “I still had to be sunny Carol on screen. It was all so shocking to me. I’d come off air, go to the ladies, have a good cry and then reapply my eye make-up before stepping in front of the cameras again.”

She explained how this helped with the “healing process”, pointing out that she’d put her “grief into a compartment”. Carol said this was something she kept “separate” from her work; otherwise, she would have been in a “puddle of tears”.

Yet, Carol has since found happiness with her new husband, Steve. She revealed to PA that her partner was “very romantic and very generous” and a “lovely man”.

Speaking to The Times, she said: “I offered to sell my home so we could buy a place together, but he’s happy living here. He’s a keeper. He’s a very good cook and tidy as well, tidier than I am.”
