A former contestant on The Chase has admitted he was ‘surprised’ by Bradley Walsh, after taking part in the ITV quiz show.

Bradley, 63, has been hosting the much-loved programme since it aired on ITV in 2009. However, viewers have no idea what’s going on before the show is edited according to quizzer, Alexander, who’s opened up about his experience on the programme.

Taking to social media, happy to answer fans’ questions about The Chase, Alexander said he’d had a “novel experience”, adding that the “whole crew was super friendly”. However, lifting the lid on Bradley’s conduct, he said The Larkins star “swore a lot”, which he wasn’t expecting.

Explaining that any expletives were edited out, he shared: “He [Bradley] was just as nice in real life. What surprised me is that he swore a bit, and they just edited that out.”

Adding that “the joking around is pretty much nonstop, and it’s a chill atmosphere”, Alexander said he didn’t have much time to interact with the presenter because of the tight schedule. However, he did say that “going down to London, filming for TV, and meeting someone like Bradley and the Chasers is also a very novel experience”.

He also lifted the lid on how much expenses contestants get for taking part, explaining that they’re allowed £15 per day. Sadly Alexander didn’t beat The Chaser but joked he’d made £3 for his efforts on the show after only spending £12 on food.

Despite having a great experience on The Chase, some fans weren’t happy with Alexander and his team after they were all caught by the Chaser, Darragh ‘The Menace’ Ennis, leading viewers to complain that the quality of players had dropped.

Social media was awash with reactions, with one viewer tweeting: “This show is going downhill fast. The producers need to sort it out & fast … it’s losing its appeal.” Another added: “I do wish the producers of #TheChase would choose more competent players. Make it better TV.”

Despite all four contestants being caught, the final chase still went ahead, with Alexander stepping up to represent the team for a last-gasp effort to win £4,000. Unfortunately, he too was caught, making for a rare episode where not a single contestant took home any prize money. At least he enjoyed the experience though.
