Strictly Come Dancing’s Amy Dowden admits ‘I’m not OK’ as she shares heartbreaking message
Strictly Come Dancing professional Amy Dowden shared an emotional video to her Instagram stories on Wednesday
Strictly Come Dancing’s Amy Dowden was seen in tears in a video she shared with her Instagram followers. The professional dancer took to her stories on Wednesday, where she gave a tearful insight into her battle with cancer.
The video marked two years since Amy had to shave her head following her breast cancer diagnosis.
Alongside the video, Amy wrote: “Two years ago today. Sunday, 17th September, I took control. I look at this video and see a frightened Amy trying to hold it together by biting my lip.
“How proud I am still taking control when I felt it was right for me,” reports Wales Online.

She continued, “Remember to be kind to yourself and others.”
In the video, Amy held back tears as her close family members and friends helped her cut her hair.
She captioned the emotional clip, “This too shall pass. Taking control- The hardest step so far. I tried my best to save it. I know it’s only hair, but these past few months I’ve had what feels like so much taken away from me that has made me not feel like Amy.
“I’m missing every possible aspect of dancing. I just wanted to keep my identity with my hair, and I tried telling myself it wouldn’t go. But I would dread the pain of waking up to the shredding every day.

“I’ve not been able to take control of this journey so far, but as you can see with some of my loved ones I took the courage and CONTROL. It’s going to take some time to get use to and learn to love and embrace but, I’m now focussing-not on the hair I’m losing but the hair I’m going to get back and the happy dancing, tea lover who talks way to fast whilst rolling every rrrrr who is still there inside with or without hair!”.
She continued by revealing that she had “crossed the half way chemo line!” and was feeling “empowered and positive!”
The professional dancer continued, “To everyone on their own journey, whatever that may be, I’m sending love, power, strength, and courage.
“I found my courage for this step, and I’m proud (There are some fun before and after vids/reels coming, but I wanted to share the truth and hopefully help others, and bring normality to a beautiful bald head).”
On Saturday evening, Amy will reunite with her fellow professional dancers as Strictly Come Dancing makes its return to television screens.
The launch programme will witness the professionals being matched with their celebrity partners, which features the likes of Dani Dyer and Thomas Skinner.
Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday at 6.40pm on BBC One.

The heartfelt post follows Amy’s appearance on Lorraine where she confessed feeling like she’d let her dance partner, JB, down due to her need to withdraw from this year’s Strictly. “I’m going to do my best not to cry, and I know lots of people would say it’s an entertainment show. We were prepared that every week could be the dance off, but I’m gutted it’s ended this way. I feel like I’ve left JB down,” she admitted, holding back tears.
Elsewhere, the first two contestants of Strictly’s Christmas spin-off have been revealed, with Josh Widdicombe and Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK star Tayce being the first celebrities confirmed in the run to the Silver Star trophy, which was lifted last year by EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick and dance partner Nancy Xu.
