Coronation Street’s Sue Cleaver has spoken candidly about ‘living fearlessly’ following her emergency surgery. During Thursday’s Loose Women, Sue shared insights into the life-changing moment she realised “life was too short”.

The actress joined Christine Lampard, Judi Love, and Kelle Bryan on the panel as they discussed Davina McCall’s recovery from a brain tumour operation, following McCall’s interview with Steven Bartlett. “I think when anything like that happens, there’s two ways to go isn’t there,” said Sue, who has previously talked about her time in ICU.

“I was very shocked by it but what it did for me is it gave me a little poke and helped me make the decision as I’m leaving Corrie, it made me wake up and think life is too short,” she added. Sue explained how the experience spurred her to make changes: “It did galvanise me into making change in my life, and a promise to myself that I was going to live fearlessly. And that meant getting out of my comfort zone.”

Reflecting on Davina McCall’s health battle, Sue remarked on the ITV show: “If you can get to a stage where that illness doesn’t define you, that you can move past it, it can be a really useful tool to say: ‘I’m glad that happened. Because of that, this where I am now and this is what I’m doing now'”.

Earlier in 2023, Sue disclosed that she had been rushed to ICU after an emergency surgery. She opened up about her health scare following incidents where diet companies falsely claimed she had lost weight using their products.

Last year, the soap star opened up on Loose Women about her health struggles, revealing her weight loss was because she was ‘seriously ill’ and not because she had been on a diet. She said: “I had a really bad year. I had a hysterectomy in March.

“Then a few weeks ago, I ended up in AandE, I don’t need to go into details, but I have not been on a diet this year. I have been seriously ill.

“It was a scary scary time. I had surgery and ended up in intensive care. There is no diet, there are no gummies. These companies pray on vulnerable people all the time,” she continued.

In 2019, Sue battled sepsis while filming for Corrie. Initially, she thought it was an IBS flare-up, but her co-star Melanie Hill noticed her feet were purple and blue.

“There was an hour window of opportunity,” she disclosed after being rushed to hospital. Speaking about her recovery, Sue confessed that it took her a “long time to get better” and that she was on bed rest for several weeks.
