GB News live audience member calls for referendum to strip Andrew’s prince title: ‘Let the public decide!’
A GB News audience member has called for a national vote on whether Prince Andrew should be stripped of his prince title, following his decision to give up the Duke of York honour.
Speaking during a live audience debate, the viewer said: “Can we be given a referendum on whether we can get rid of his title?”
GB News Royal Correspondent Cameron Walker explained that while such a move was possible, it would require an Act of Parliament.
He told the audience: “It would be very popular with the British public, and it wouldn’t cost any money.

“But the last time anything like that happened was in 1917 under the Deprivation of Titles Act.”
Walker added that the 1917 law allowed the British state to remove the titles of German princes during the First World War, describing it as “incredibly rare”.
He said: “It is possible, but it hasn’t happened for well over 100 years.”
The audience member added: “No. Leave it to Charles? Give it to the public. Let them decide what they want. Get Nigel to put it in his manifesto.”
In a statement released by Buckingham Palace, the King’s brother said his decision came in response to the “continued accusations” surrounding him.
As a result, Prince Andrew will no longer act as a Counsellor of State, a role which allowed him to carry out official duties on behalf of the monarch.

In a Buckingham Palace statement, Prince Andrew said: “In discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family.”
“I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life.
“With His Majesty’s agreement, we feel I must now go a step further.
“I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me.
“As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me,” he concluded.
Prince Andrew’s decision to step back from his title also means that his former wife, Sarah Ferguson, will no longer use the title Duchess of York.
However, their daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, will keep their royal titles, as they are granddaughters of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
