If you’ve ever wondered why Spandau Ballet never seems close to a reunion, a long-running feud between Martin Kemp and Tony Hadley may be the reason — and it’s bubbling right back to the surface as Martin tackles his jungle journey on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!.

While Martin pushes through the challenges of camp life, Tony — who appeared on the show a decade ago — is preparing for his Christmas tour. But that’s far from the only thing keeping him from cheering on his former bandmate.

Tony and Martin were once part of one of the biggest groups of the 1980s, yet they haven’t shared a stage since 2017. That was the year Tony firmly shut the door on his time with Spandau Ballet, announcing he was leaving the group for good.
Appearing on Loose Women on Tuesday (18 November), Tony sent a pointed warning to Martin about the reality of jungle life.
“Just be yourself,” he cautioned. “You can’t pretend to be someone else 24/7 — it’s too intense in there.”
Despite the advice, the men remain far from close. Tony once told The Mirror:
“You could offer me all the tea in China and I still wouldn’t go back.”
A comment that left fans wondering what truly fractured the band so permanently.
Tony has insisted the group did not treat him well and that he has no interest in ever returning. He says he stays in touch only with saxophonist Steve Norman, and refuses to reveal the reason for the split, saying the rest of the band should be the ones to explain.
“There’s a very specific reason I left,” he said. “They’ve never been brave enough to say it. It’s up to them to tell fans the truth: ‘We made a mistake. We caused this.’ I didn’t create the situation — I just couldn’t stay.”
He added that he will never disclose the details:
“It’s for them to be honourable and admit what happened.”
Martin has acknowledged some of the tension Tony described.
Speaking to The Guardian, he admitted the band’s behaviour wasn’t always fair:
“There’s always someone who takes all the jokes. Tony took the brunt of it. Looking back, I don’t like how we used to group up on him. I feel guilty. It was mostly singer envy.”
Gary Kemp has hinted at the possibility of a reunion, but Tony immediately dismissed the idea.
He told the Express that the rumours “came as news” to him and made it clear such a comeback “wouldn’t happen”.
“They should have thought about how they treated people,” he added. “They should have been kinder.”
For now, Martin continues his I’m A Celeb experience while Tony moves forward with his tour — and the distance between them appears as unmovable as ever.
