Patrick Mahomes delivered one of the worst performances of his career in Super Bowl LIX, leaving many Kansas City Chiefs fans searching for answers.
While some have pointed to strategic missteps or offensive line struggles, a surprising theory has emerged – voodoo.

A viral video from inside the Caesars Superdome captured an Eagles fan repeatedly sticking pins into a Mahomes-themed voodoo doll while the crowd erupted in cheers.
Given that New Orleans is known as the voodoo capital of the United States, the eerie footage has sparked playful speculation over whether Mahomes was “cursed” during the game.
Mahomes struggles in the biggest game of the year
On paper, Mahomes‘ numbers-21-of-32 passing for 257 yards and three touchdowns-seem respectable. But those stats fail to capture the full story.
The Chiefs quarterback threw two costly interceptions deep in Kansas City territory, one of which was returned for a touchdown by Eagles rookie Cooper DeJean.
Mahomes finished the game with a quarterback rating of just 11.4, the second-lowest of his entire career. The Chiefs offense was completely out of sync, failing to score a touchdown until they were already trailing by 34 points.
Kansas City’s offensive line, which has been an issue in past Super Bowl defeats, also played a major role in their struggles. Joe Thuney, moved to left tackle for the game, was overwhelmed by the Eagles’ defensive front.
The lack of protection forced Mahomes into rushed decisions, leading to the crucial turnovers that sealed the Chiefs’ fate.
Superstition or just a bad night for Mahomes?
While Mahomes took full responsibility for the loss, acknowledging that his mistakes put the team in a difficult position, some fans are left wondering if external forces were at play.
Could the voodoo fan have influenced the game, or was this simply an uncharacteristic off-night for one of the NFL’s most dominant quarterbacks?
