Boxing fans think they have figured out exactly why Tyson Fury announced his shock retirement in a video on Monday afternoon.
Fury, 36, took to social media on Monday to announce that he has decided to retire from boxing after enjoying a legendary career.
The British heavyweight is coming off the back of two consecutive losses to unified champion Oleksandr Usyk.
And in the wake of the announcement, boxing fans are convinced they have figured out the real reason why Fury has decided to retire.
Immediately after Fury’s second loss to Usyk, fans began to call for him to finally face British rival Anthony Joshua, who has also lost twice to Ukrainian champion.
And, amid reports that the fight may finally be happening, Fury announced his retirement out of nowhere, leading fans to claim that he was running away from the fight with his fellow British heavyweight.
Reacting to Fury’s announcement, one boxing fan wrote: “Tyson Fury ducked ANTHONY JOSHUA his whole career – even at his highest and AJs lowest, denying us an all timer heavyweight fight. He ran when he had everything to lose and ran when he had nothing to lose.”
While one critic wrote: “So Fury ducks AJ, a dangerous opponent, one last time.
“Fury cherry picked opponents throughout his career, conning his fans in the process, only to finally be exposed when fighting proper fighters. A fitting end to a farce of a career.”
Joshua, who is coming off the back of a knockout loss to IBF champion Daniel Dubois, has been outspoken about his desire to face Fury in recent weeks.

But now, it appears Fury is not interested, saying in his retirement video: “Hi everybody, I’m going to make this short and sweet, I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast. I’ve loved every single minute of it.”
However, not all fans are convinced that we’ve seen the last of Fury in the ring, with one fan writing: “Tyson fury retiring until he gets offered a mega money fight vs AJ… shock.”
Monday’s surprise announcement isn’t the first time that the two-time champion claimed that he would be retiring, as in April 2022, after beating fellow Brit Dillian Whyte, Fury told fans that he was retiring.
And yet, six months later Fury returned to face former foe and close friend Derek Chisora at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.
