Sir Andy Murray has revealed he bought a Ferrari – nicknamed Barry – during a brief 2008 split from his now-wife Kim Sears

Andy Murray has opened up about a chaotic chapter from his past – one that involved a break-up, a Ferrari named Barry, and an immediate run-in with the law.
During a recent live show, the tennis legend reflected on the brief time he and his now-wife Kim Sears split back in 2008. The couple, who started dating in 2005 and married in 2015, hit a rough patch early on. Murray’s way of coping was by splurging on a flashy new sports car.
“I bought a Ferrari,” he admitted. “I called it Barry the Ferrari. I thought it was cool, but it didn’t last very long.”
However, the thrill was short-lived. “The first day I took it out to drive, it got pulled over by the police because the insurance hadn’t cleared,” he said. “I got rid of it over a couple of months, because it wasn’t really me.”

The spontaneous purchase wasn’t the only headline-worthy moment involving Murray and Kim, who has stood by his side through the highs and lows of his career. From emotional Centre Court finals to press and tournaments around the world, Kim’s support has been a constant.

She’s also earned a reputation for her sharp tongue and zero-filter reactions. Most famously, at the 2015 Australian Open, Kim was caught mouthing off in the stands – seemingly calling rival player Tomas Berdych a “Czech flash f***.”
Not one to shy away from a moment, she returned to Andy’s next match wearing a jumper that read: “Parental Advisory: Explicit Content.”

And it seems not much has changed. Murray recently shared a brutally honest exchange with Kim while he was performing on stage.
“At one of the shows we did a few nights ago, I messaged her during the half-time interval, asking, ‘Is everyone OK?’” he recalled. “She replied, ‘It has been a f*ing shambles. Lola’s being a tt. Hope the show’s going better than this.’”
The couple, who now have four children together, haven’t lost their sense of humour in family life. Kim even took a playful jab at Andy’s retirement, chiming in with: “He is playing so much f***ing golf.”
