Prince Harry ‘won’t meet’ with brother William during UK return for WellChild Awards

The Duke of Sussex has the award ceremony on September 8

Prince Harry will return to the UK in a couple of weeks to attend the WellChild Awards, but will he meet up with his estranged family?

On September 8, the Duke of Sussex will attend the awards ceremony in London. He has been a patron of the charity for 17 years. The ceremony will celebrate the inspirational achievements of seriously ill children and those who care for them.

But with Harry back in the UK, many may wonder if he’ll stop by and meet with his family since he now lives in the United States.

One royal commentator has speculated that although it may be a “surprise” for Harry, 40, to meet with his father, King Charles, it could happen. However, there’s doubt over Harry meeting with his older brother, Prince William.

Is Prince Harry returning to live in the UK?

No, Harry hasn’t said that he plans to return to the UK to live. However, he will be back on British soil in September for the WellChild Awards.

Harry stepped back from senior royal duties with his wife, Meghan Markle, in 2020. They now live in California with their two children, Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four.

Since stepping away from royal life, the pair have become estranged from the royal family thanks to a series of damning interviews and Harry’s tell-all memoir, Spare.

Harry and Meghan have opened up about their experience within the monarchy, and made negative allegations about the royal family.

This has caused the king, 76, and Prince William, 43, to distance from the Sussexes. It’s believed that Harry last saw his father in early 2024 following the king’s cancer diagnosis.

Prince Harry’s comments about King Charles’ cancer ‘will not have gone down well’

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams has shared his thoughts on whether Harry could meet up with his family in September.

In May of this year, the Duke of Sussex expressed a desire to reconcile with his family in an interview with the BBC.

He said: “There’s no point in continuing to fight any more. Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has. He won’t speak to me.”

Speaking to Royal Insider, Mr Fitzwilliams insisted the royal family doesn’t trust the Sussexes.

I would be surprised if Harry met King Charles on this visit, but who knows?

He said of Prince Harry’s UK return and the chances of the duke meeting with his family: “This is an open question as the issue of trust is clearly pivotal here and the royal family does not trust the Sussexes.

“There is still the possibility that Harry could attempt to take his desire to get automatic police protection for himself and his family further, trying to involve the Prime Minister and the Home Secretary, the king cannot be involved in the administration of justice because of his position.

“His comments in his BBC interview that he didn’t know how long his father had left, a reference to the king’s battling cancer, will not have gone down well.

“However it is possible, after the recent meeting of royal aides, that his desire for ‘reconciliation’ may reach receptive ears.”

Aides for both the king and Harry met in London in July, sparking speculation that a reconciliation could be on the horizon.

Will Harry meet with the king during his UK trip for WellChild Awards?

Mr Fitzwilliams continued: “His invitation to the royal family to attend Invictus 2027 in Birmingham may also, but this is totally unclear as the king may choose to be represented instead of attending.

“Meghan did not help matters with her comments about not feeling authentic when a working royal in her Bloomberg interview this week, but I doubt the palace took much interest in it.
