Emotional moment Prince Harry breaks down on stage over he and Meghan Markle expecting Archie
Prince Harry said it led to an argument with William…
Prince Harry’s emotions took over once on stage which led to headlines highlighting the dad-of-two breaking down in tears after he appeared at an event.
The Duke of Sussex was delivering a speech at the WellChild Awards when he was forced to stop.
As a royal, he has learned how to cope in an array of public appearances but this one affected him, especially the moment Prince Harry breaks down mid-sentence. The topic that had the Duke on the verge of tears was his son Prince Archie.
It’s not the first time the prince was in tears either, as Harry opened up about crying in his memoir Spare.

Prince Harry breaks down on stage as he holds back tears
In October 2019, before he and Meghan Markle left the royal family, they attended the WellChild Awards. Set up at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex spoke about the challenges parents face. He became a patron of WellChild in 2007.
Prince Harry admitted he was crying the last time he attended – in 2018 – as it was soon after the couple found out they were expecting their first child together. Prince Archie was born the following spring.
Not many people knew they were expecting at the time.
The royal, now dad-of-two, said: “Last year when my wife and I attended we knew we were expecting our first child and no one else did at the time, but we did. I remember -”
Prince Harry was seen stopping as he breaks down and chokes back tears. Gabby Roslin, the ceremony’s host, checked on him to make sure the royal was okay to continue.
The Duke then continued: “Sorry. I remember squeezing Meghan’s hand so tight throughout the awards and both of us were wondering what it would be like to be parents one day.
“And more so, what it would be like to do everything we could to help our child, should they be born with immediate challenges or become unwell over time.
“And now, as parents, being here and speaking to all of you, pulls at my heartstrings in a way I could never have understood until I had a child of my own.”

Prince William was concerned over his brother’s appearance
In his memoir Spare, Harry said the incident where he breaks down on stage actually caused a stir with his older brother Prince William.
It took place five months after Meghan gave birth to their son Archie.
He wrote: “I walked onstage, began my brief remarks, and caught sight of Meg’s face. I thought back to a year ago, when she and I attended this event just weeks after taking that home pregnancy test.
“We’d been filled with hope, and worry, like all expectant parents, and now we had a healthy little boy at home. But these parents and children hadn’t been so lucky. Gratitude and sympathy converged in my heart, and I choked up.
“Unable to get the words out, I held the lectern tight and leaned forward. The presenter, who’d been a friend of my mother, stepped over and gave my shoulder a rub.
“It helped, as did the burst of applause, which gave me a moment to restart my vocal cords. Soon after, I got a text from Willy. He was in Pakistan on tour. He said I was clearly struggling, and he was worried about me.”

Prince Harry almost crying on stage led to William row
But the cause of concern grew into a heated exchange, Harry claims.
He wrote William thought he was ‘unwell’ and ‘unwise’ and that the texts turned “into an argument”, saying it lasted 72 hours.
“Back and forth we went, all day, late into the night—we’d never had a fight like that over text before,” the Duke continued.
“Angry, but also miles apart, as if we were speaking different languages.
“Now and then I realised that my worst fear was coming true: after months of therapy, after working hard to become more aware, more independent, I was a stranger to my older brother. He could no longer relate to me – tolerate me.
“Or maybe it was just the stress of the last few years, the last few decades, finally pouring out.
“I saved the texts. I have them still. I read them sometimes, with sadness, with confusion, thinking: How did we ever get there?
“In his final texts, Willy wrote that he loved me. That he cared for me deeply. That he would do whatever is needed to help me. He told me to never feel any other way.”
