“SEVEN WORDS — AND SHE WAS DONE.”: GMB’s Susanna Reid obliterates Rachel Reeves with a blistering seven-word takedown right on live TV – She was speechless because she felt so humiliated.k

Good Morning Britain aired a humiliating takedown of Chancellor Rachel Reeves, as Susanna Reid ruthlessly interrupted her stuttering responses following the reception to her latest Autumn Budget. Reporting live from the ITV offices, the 54-year-old broadcaster returned to the helm with her co-host Ed Balls, where conversation quickly turned to the budget. And it’s fair to say the presenter certainly didn’t hold her tongue when she confronted the politician about her broken promises pledged in Labour’s manifesto.

Grilling the presenter, Reid put to Reeves: “How can anyone believe anything you say?” as the Chancellor responded with: “I’m the Chancellor in the world as it is not in the world that I might like it to be, and I do have to respond to new forecasts and events unfolding around the world.”

She added: “I’m not pretending that what I did yesterday is not asking working people to contribute more, but because of other changes we’ve made around gambling taxes, around higher value properties, means that I was able to keep that to an absolute minimum.”

Susanna hit back with: “But you acknowledge that when you make a promise in the manifesto on which millions of people vote, when you make a promise in the House of Commons publicly, you acknowledge we can’t believe those promises because they could be broken.”

Determined to defend herself, she insists: “Well, Susanna, in the manifesto, it is very clear that it was rates of income tax, national insurance -” It’s at this point that the ITV host put her foot down, interrupting with: “I apologise for interrupting Chancellor, but that’s not true.

“In the manifesto, it’s clear you said, ‘Labour will not increase taxes on working people’. It couldn’t have been clearer; you didn’t have to put that sentence in, Chancellor. You put that sentence in.”

Reeves hit back with: “But the next sentence straight after that, Susanna, if you carry on reading, says the rates. But I do recognise that we have asked from 2028 for people to contribute more by freezing those thresholds for an additional three years.

“But people will also see in the budget yesterday that we’re helping people in the here and now in the cost of living with £150 off of people’s bills from April next year, alongside the other cost of living support that we’re providing as well.

“In the last 16 months since I became Chancellor of the Exchequer, interest rates have come down five times. For someone taking out a new mortgage, that’s £1,200 less on the mortgage because they’ve managed to start getting down those interest rates that were hiked when Liz Truss was Prime Minister.”

It didn’t take long before viewers flocked to X – formerly known as Twitter – to praise the broadcaster for her grilling interview, with one user posting: “Go Susanna! Reeves can’t give a straight answer and detracts to anything but her useless budget. Frightening that she’s in charge of the coffers.” Another agreed: “Susanna wiping the floor with Reeves!” as a third echoed: “Come on Susanna, do your worst!”
