Eamonn Holmes marked the anniversary of his dad’s birthday in an emotional post as the GB News host revealed his loved one died without warning. The former This Morning presenter, 65, took the opportunity to remember his late father in a heartfelt message. He explained that Saturday (August 23) would have marked his dad’s 100th birthday. Eamonn’s dad, Leonard Holmes, died aged 64 after suffering a fatal heart attack while driving in 1990.

Taking to Instagram Eamonn penned a heartwarming message as he was swiftly inundated with messages of support. Sharing a black and white photo of his dad, he wrote: “My Dad Leonard, had he lived, would have been 100 today. Instead he died without warning at the age of 64. I took my looks and most of my personality from Mummy… but what an influence that man had on me!

“I think fondly about him every day, every single day. He was a joker and a prankster with a contagious work ethic and I know he lives on in me and my 4 brothers! From us all Cheers Daddy. Miss you more than words can ever say x. Oh, and Happy Heavenly Birthday!”

His 769,000 followers reacted to the heartbreaking message as I’m A Celeb’s Gillian McKeith shared a heart emoji.

A social media user penned: “Lovely post Eamonn and your dad has a kind face x Happy 100th birthday in Heaven to him.”

A second shared: “Lovely photo of your dad Eamonn. Missing them can be so hard at times, even years on. I think they do live on in us and I do think my dad does too.”

A third noted: “Oh so like you and lovely Ruth’s son Jack.”

Eamonn replied: “Claire, I tell Jack that too. Glad you see the resemblance.”

The broadcaster previously discussed his dad’s sudden death during appearance on Irish show The Meaning Of Life in 2021, he said: “He’s been gone 31 years now but I still miss him every day.

“I can’t recall my late father without thinking of how he always wanted to provide… even when I had a successful career. I think like all of us he just liked to be needed.”
