Meghan Markle breaks silence on ‘baby mama’ dance after hospital video controversy

Meghan Markle has addressed her “Baby Mama” dance  hospital video following controversy.

The now viral clip featured a heavily pregnant duchess twerking beside her hospital bed in 2021 while attempting to induce labour with daughter Lilibet.

The clip was posted earlier this month to celebrate Lilibet’s fourth birthday and was met with a wave of both praise and backlash.

Many fans found the footage fun and relatable. However, conspiracy theorists latched on to the video, bizarrely accusing Meghan, 43, of faking her pregnancy.

Now, nearly two weeks after the video set social media ablaze, the Duchess of Sussex is speaking out.

Meghan Markle addresses Baby Mama hospital video

Appearing on the Aspire podcast hosted by Dragons’ Den star and SKIMS founding partner Emma Grede, Meghan defended her decision to post the personal footage and seemingly pushed back against the criticism.

“You have to be authentic,” Meghan said. “Did you see my Baby Mama dance? That wasn’t yesterday, that was four years ago.

“It’s a really great reminder that with all the noise or whatever people do, there’s still a whole life, a real, authentic, fun life, that’s happening behind the scenes. I’m just grateful that now, being back on social as well, I have a place where I can share it on my own terms.”

The video was set to the viral track Baby Momma Dance. It showcases Meghan dancing with her hands on her knees, while a hoodie-clad Prince Harry makes a brief appearance.

Podcast host Emma admitted she was surprised by the clip.

I’m just grateful that now, being back on social as well, I have a place where I can share it on my own terms.

“We maybe watched it like 20 times yesterday,” she joked on the episode. “I was like, is that Prince Harry there with the fingers? I was like, okay, Meghan and Harry, let’s go! But that’s you, right? That’s you in a way that we kind of haven’t been able to see you before.”

Meghan returns to social media

Meghan originally captioned the video on Instagram: “Four years ago today, this also happened. Both of our children were a week past their due dates… so when spicy food, all that walking, and acupuncture didn’t work, there was only one thing left to do!”

However, the clip didn’t sit well with everyone. Royal commentator Ingrid Seward blasted the video as “vulgar” and “attention-seeking”.

“They can do what they like, but why put it online?” she told The Sun. “Does Meghan have no boundaries? I think it’s completely hypocritical for everything she stands for. It’s very embarrassing.”

Ingrid added: “They make such a point about privacy and security, and then they put stuff out there. Meghan can’t resist putting it out there.”

This comes shortly after Meghan shared some more personal home videos in her Father’s Day tribute to Prince Harry on Sunday (June 15).

In the video compilation, she included rare footage of Harry playing and laughing with Archie, six, and Lilibet, four, again carefully keeping their faces turned away from the camera.

The duchess’ recent return to social media signals a new chapter in her public presence, one where she’s seemingly determined to tell her own story.
