Netflix’s new drama series, Adolescence, has taken the world by storm after its release earlier this month. The four-part series follows the Miller family after their world gets turned upside down when their 13-year-old son Jamie Miller (played by Owen Cooper) is arrested in his bedroom one morning on suspicion of murdering his female schoolmate the previous night.
Already being touted for numerous BAFTA nominations, data from ratings body BARB showed that the premiere episode attracted 6.45 million viewers in its first week. Fans and critics also praised the Stephen Graham-fronted series as one of the best shows they’ve watched in a while.

The BAFTA TV Awards is coming up and would have been the perfect opportunity for the stars to take home awards. However, Adolescence hasn’t been nominated for any awards this year.
This is because Adolescence won’t qualify for this year’s BAFTA TV Awards as the qualifying period is between January 1 and December 31, 2024.

Fans will have to look out to see if the show receives nominations for next year’s awards show. Adolescence’s 6.45 million viewers in its first week sets a new record for the largest audience for any streaming show in the UK in a single week, surpassing the 6.3 million who tuned into Fool Me Once on Netflix last year.

The second episode of Adolescence pulled in 5.94 million viewers, ranking second behind BBC’s The Apprentice and Death In Paradise, which came third and fourth respectively.
Meanwhile, Alan Cumming will be hosting the BAFTA Television Awards with P&O Cruises on May 11 at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall.
He is “renowned for his celebrated career in the arts, spanning television, film, and theater,” BAFTA said.
“From his Tony and Olivier Award-winning performance in Cabaret, to his memorable performance in The Good Wife — for which he won a Golden Globe for best supporting actor, as well as an Emmy for his work as an executive producer — Cumming is recognized for his versatility both on-screen and behind the scenes.
“More recently, his signature charm has captivated TV audiences worldwide as host of The Traitors U.S., for which he has won two Emmys and two Critics Choice Awards.”
“We’re delighted that Alan Cumming will be hosting this year’s BAFTA Television Awards with P&O Cruises,” Emma Baehr, executive director of awards and content at BAFTA, said.
“He will definitely bring a playful sense of mischief and fun to the ceremony, so audiences should expect the unexpected at Britain’s biggest celebration of TV.”
