ITV The Chase viewers outraged over ‘unnecessarily brutal’ Anne Hegerty joke

The Chase fans were left in uproar as they saw Bradley Walsh take a brutal swipe aimed at Anne Hegerty during the latest instalment of the ITV quiz show.

Fans of The Chase were left reeling after an “unnecessarily harsh” joke was directed at Anne Hegerty.

On Thursday (February 13), ITV viewers tuned in to a fresh episode of The Chase, with four hopeful contestants aiming to win some cash.

Bradley welcomed the first player, 48-year-old Edel, who had an impressive cash builder round and managed to accumulate £8,000. However, she was unaware of which Chaser she would face as Bradley began introducing them all.

But when it came to Anne Hergerty’s introduction, Bradley’s quip didn’t go down well with viewers.

He said: “The Governess, the one time you’d believe Shaggy when he says it wasn’t him’.”

One person said: “That’s quite horrible Brad.” Another wrote: “It wasn’t that funny, in fact it wasn’t funny at all.”

A fan shared: “I know they’re mean about Anne on the intros, but Christ, that Shaggy joke was unnecessarily brutal.”

In the end, the players faced Paul ‘The Sinnerman’ Sinha, who offered Edel a staggering high offer of £40,000, which she decided to take on.

The quiz master proved too formidable for her, as Edel was caught out at the table during the nail-biting episode.

In the end, it was player Nigel who was left to take on ‘The Sinnerman’ in the final round as tensions soared.

Before going head-to-head, the Chaser expressed that Nigel had a fighting chance after his impressive knowledge led him to bank £8,000.

With a one-step advantage, Nigel managed to get 16 questions right alone setting Paul a target of 17.

In a tight round, Nigel was ultimately outrun by Paul with just six seconds to spare. Host Bradley Walsh praised the effort, saying: “That’s a fantastic performance, Nigel, excellent.”
