A Carnival Tuesday celebration turned deadly in Sangre Grande when an argument over a dance escalated into a fatal stabbing. An attacker struck 18-year-old national youth boxer Prince Charles as he enjoyed Last Lap festivities on the Eastern Main Road.
According to police, the dispute began around 10:30 p.m. when Charles danced with a young woman. A 57-year-old man confronted him, claiming the woman was his relative. The argument quickly turned violent, ending with the suspect stabbing Prince Charles in the chest before fleeing.
Sangre Grande Police officers apprehended the suspect nearby and seized a six-inch knife, believed to be the murder weapon. Despite efforts to save him, doctors pronounced Charles dead at Sangre Grande Hospital at 10:49 p.m.

The tragedy has devastated Prince Charles’ family, classmates, and teachers at Sangre Grande Secondary School. During Wednesday’s general assembly, staff and students mourned his loss. Teachers described him as disciplined, intelligent, and driven.
His father, Ryan Solomon, recalled Charles’ dedication to boxing. “He fought in Panama, the U.S., and Puerto Rico, winning medals and trophies. He wanted to be a soldier but fell in love with boxing.”
His mother, Friday Charles-Solomon, struggled to process the loss. She recounted the moment she received the news. “A relative came trembling, saying, ‘Prince now get stabbed and is unconscious. Get up, let’s go!’” She arrived at the hospital only to find her son lifeless. “Just hours ago, he was smiling. I can’t believe he’s gone,” she said through tears.
Charles had been preparing for exams and washing cars for extra income, and this was his first time attending Carnival festivities. His grieving parents demand justice and urge authorities to hold their son’s killer accountable. The investigation is ongoing on the youth boxer murder case.
