Football Fans Have Theory As To Why Chiefs Won’t Win Super Bowl This Season
The Kansas City Chiefs will begin their quest for another Lombardi Trophy when the divisional round of the NFL playoffs kick off in a few weeks. No team in league history has ever won three straight Super Bowl titles.
While history is definitely against the Chiefs, they’ve shown all season long they can win in a multitude of ways. If they need their defense to lock down their opponents, Steve Spagnuolo dials up the right calls. If they need Patrick Mahomes to go nuclear, he’s more than capable of doing so. And if you need a lucky bounce or break on special teams, no team has more luck on its side than Kansas City.
That being said, NFL fans are convinced the Chiefs will lose their first playoff game this January. Their reasoning is a bit far-fetched, but interesting nonetheless.
Earlier this week, all four teams that received a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff lost in the quarterfinals. Although it’s tough to compare college to the pros, fans are convinced that’s a bad omen for the No. 1 seed in the AFC.
“Every College Football team with a first round bye lost which leads me to believe the chiefs will lose in the second round,” a Bills fan said. “Life is good.”
“Not one team that got a bye in the CFP advanced. The Chiefs should take note and play all their starters this Sunday,” a fan wrote.
Another fan tweeted, “Hey @Chiefs kind of interesting that all four team that had a bye in the College Football playoff lost, don’t you think?”
“All 4 CFP teams that had a BYE are now out of the CFP and that’s a prime example of why the chiefs need to play starters this Sunday at least the first half,” a social media user added.

The Chiefs know how to play well after an extended break. After all, Andy Reid has the highest winning percentage of any coach coming off a bye.
Mahomes also mentioned how the Chiefs could use this time off to let players like himself recover from their in-season injuries.
“It’s just going to be nice getting guys healthy,” Mahomes said. “I think this was the earliest [regular-season] bye I’ve ever had just in general. To kind of have this grind of whatever it is – I think we had our bye Week 6 – so it’s like almost 10 weeks of just football and grinding and then this short schedule at the very end of the year. We have some guys banged up, and to get them back healthy now and we’ll see how Week 18 goes and who plays and who doesn’t play. … But even getting this little break, getting back healthy and then getting ourselves ready to go for the playoffs, it was super important.”
The divisional round of the playoffs will begin on Jan. 18. The Chiefs will host the lowest remaining AFC seed that weekend.
