“You Got It, Didn’t You?” – King’s Whisper to Beckham Hints at Secret Knighthood Letter
David Beckham is expected to be knighted in the upcoming Birthday Honours List – and royal whispers suggest it may already be a done deal.
The former England captain, now 50, has long been tipped for the title of “Sir David”, with years of calls from the public and sporting figures for his achievements to be officially recognised. According to The Sun, King Charles is set to place Beckham’s name at the top of the list.
The news comes amid reports of a private conversation between Beckham and the monarch at last month’s Chelsea Flower Show. “You got it, didn’t you?” the King was overheard saying to David – a comment widely interpreted to refer to the honours letter, traditionally sent out weeks ahead of the announcement. Beckham replied modestly: “It was incredible, thank you. It was very kind.”
David, a father of four and global football icon, has become increasingly involved in charity work and royal initiatives, serving as an ambassador for The King’s Foundation. His close relationship with King Charles has only added fuel to the speculation.
Should the knighthood be confirmed, Victoria Beckham will earn the title of Lady Beckham – a new chapter for the famous couple.
The honour would follow years of delays and near-misses. Beckham was first considered for a knighthood back in 2011, following his role in securing the London 2012 Olympics. However, he was reportedly blocked due to involvement in a tax avoidance scheme. With his finances now cleared, the path is open once again.
In 2022, fans believed he was finally due the title after he queued for 13 hours to pay his respects to the late Queen Elizabeth II. Yet once again, the honour was withheld. Last year’s New Year Honours List also came and went without his name.
Beckham was previously awarded an OBE in 2003 for services to football.
Meanwhile, Love Island star and campaigner Georgia Harrison is expected to receive an MBE. Georgia, 30, who is currently pregnant with her first child, has been recognised for her work raising awareness of revenge porn and consent issues.
She took ex-boyfriend Stephen Bear to court after he shared an explicit video of her without permission. He was sentenced to 22 months in prison, and Georgia was awarded £207,900 in damages.
A source told MailOnline: “Georgia is incredibly proud to receive such an honour… Hopefully this will be the beginning of more improvements for women and girls and their fight for online safety.”
